Thoughts on touching gloves/ showing respect mid round?

I think it's a good show of respect but doesn't bother me if they don't, everyone should touch gloves at the start of the fight when the ref says so, after that there is no obligation to touch gloves. Either way, if someone takes advantage of the fight someone wants to touch gloves I'd still consider it dirty even though it's perfectly legal.

In the recent Wonderboy V Neal fight I couldn’t help but think how being all friendly with Thompson is one of the worst things you can do as far as your chances of winning are concerned. Wonderboy thrives in that sparring mentality. You can’t play his game of point fighting because he will win every time. Instead you have to be sneaky, and do things he’s not expecting. Everytime Wonderboy touched gloves with Neal it seemed like he was instilling this sparring mentality into the fight. I don’t think he shows respect to gain any kind of edge, but it does benefit him and his style of fighting.

hate it with a passion. they should only allow one glove touch before the fight and anything after that is a warning/foul.

Don’t like all the amicable tomfuchery that goes on these days, I get the respectful part, but... the man standing across from you is trying to bludgeon you unconscious... those aren’t t friendly intentions FFS
<{cruzshake}>

If anything, Wonderboy was giving Neal a breather for that ass beating with the respectfulness. I think he allows it because he knows if they anyone wants to take a break then he will be firmly leading the dance either way without having to risk anything.

Instead of touching gloves, opponents should constantly be spitting towards each to show disrespect.

MMA overtakes soccerball in a year if they implement this.

I dont like it. Once in the beggining is enough. Watching hifives after each slip creating atmosphere they wont go all out.

As long as its natural im all for it. But if its forced then its as bad as 2 guys pretending the hate each other.

Its a thin line between fries and shakes

It's just who WB is. I ,particularly, cant stand it. I love the respect that " MMA" should permeate but at the beginning of the fight and at its end is when all this stuff should go down. At the end of the day, it's a fight in a cage with 2 people trying to inflict damage on the other. Its actually rather silly. * exception to the rule* - A five round fight of the year type of deal where you know something special has happened over 4 rounds and fighters show some sort of quick acknowledgment as 5th round begins.

I don't mind it at all so long as it's genuine and doesn't amount to stalling. Furthermore I feel like some of the remarks in this thread are absurd, bordering on entitled and/or insecure.

"I expect violence!" Wonderboy's last two bouts were FOTN/POTN and had hundreds of significant strikes thrown: absolute standup wars with both dudes trading in the pocket and trying to murder each other. You got plenty of violence, you can tolerate the 1.5 seconds of them showing props while they deal permanent injury to one another. Anyone who lets a glove touch or "You all right?" take them out of the moment has other issues IMO.

And if one fighter ends up exploiting it to land a "cheap shot", well... it'll be dirty, sure, but that's why the rules exist to protect yourself at all times.

I like my beef ..like i like my woman...real

If theres no beef..dont force it...you dont gotta hate someone to fuck em up lol...its competition boys not you stole my girlfriend bitch shit...

That said...when theres real beef the fight is usually better

i like wonderboy and yeah, it does come off as excessive most of the time. besides, in the case of cerrone vs medeiros for example, they were both rocked a couple of times but didn't look for the finish then, they hugged instead. however, cowboy decided to hurt him once he felt like it lol, after 3,4 mins. I mean, where do you draw the line? it's a fight, so it's a mutually exclusive situation regarding camaraderie.

can't stand it

love each other all you want AFTER the fight

but be nick diaz during the 15/25 minutes you're in there

I think its too much. I'm all for respect, but I dont wanna see the guys touching gloves 10-20 times

Victor Ortiz learned the hard way to not do that. Your opponent may not share the positive vibes you are putting out

He deserved it...

He intentionally butted Mayweather seconds before the KO, and didn’t even try to hide it. The hug was supposed to be an “apology” but it was clearly no accident.

I only start to cringe when the fighters go overboard with it. Barry v Crocop was pretty embarrassing, both guys were literally having cuddles in the octagon while the clock was still running.

Yair v Zombie got annoying after a while too. Even the commentators were getting sick of that shit.

But that was all Barry. Crocop is not like that normally. Pat behaved like some gay porn actor always trying to touch Crocop and cuddle with him. Wouldnt have surprised me if he tried to kiss him. But Barry has more than a screw loose. Man at the beginning of his career I thought he was just a fun relaxed guy. Little did I know <Lmaoo>
