I keep seeing this graphic here about rape statistics. I do not dispute the point they make (that rape is often punished) but what confuses me is this...

How on Earth can they have statistics on falsely accused? Since they like to use the argument that false accusations are rare. You can't prove an unknown.

And to be fair you cannot get accurate statistics on rapists either.

This has been making me wonder, but if I ask in certain spaces I'll be labeled a rape apologist.

Interesting. CSI scared me off becoming a rapist but I guess there's a decent chance of getting away with it after all. Thanks ts

thoughts on rape statistics? India is one fucked up place
...that is all

In the world of a Statistician, it all makes perfect sense...

Falsely accused could be any acquittals? How are the number of unreported rapes known?

Statistically speaking if that graph was true we would be seeing droves of women carrying mattresses throughout the country which in turn would cause either a spike in the purchases of SUVs by women to carry the mattress or a spike in the purchases of those small shitty Ikea mattresses.

Since the SUV market is bottoming out and Ikea mattress sales have held steady I can statistically conclude that that graph is outlandishly and salaciously false.

Not really surprising statistic really, easy to see why most women don't report rape when you consider societal factors

Perhaps unreported rapes are known from taking polls. I hear 1 in 4 women in college is raped.

No. 1 in 4 women in the congo are raped. A very small percentage of women in college are raped.

Thats one of the rape statistics I have a real hard time with. Thats like congo level war zone rape numbers. I guess if you make the definition of rape big enough just about anything sexual can fall in there

That's what I think, the definition can be something like unwanted touching. But again, I don't wanna argue it so I'm not accused of victim blaming.

Unless, "sexual assualt" doesnt fully qualify to you, we can broaden the statistics to US women and men in general in terms of rape with pnetration
