So, after about seven hundred hours on Civ 5, and an upgraded computer, I am considering Civ 7. Anyone wanna leave their reviews? I haven’t played much of six because of the hate.

If you didn’t like it, why? What do you hope to see in future iterations?

Why are you an asshole, Ghandi?

I could never get into the Civilization games or the genre. Not sure what Im supposed to be doing.

I love civ games but this one’s put me off. I don’t like the idea of changing civilization each era is a huge turn off to me
Yeah.

I played through once and started a second. Don't feel like I know the game well enough to really review, but will say that on console at least there are too few options available when starting a new game even compared to 6.

I'm much more interested in hearing the explanation behind TS' odd posting history. Started a few threads way back, then started posting normally after 18 years of basically nuttin?

Yeah.

Yeah I’ve read that it feels like it was half finished when they released it and still had a lot to implement. Sad to see Firaxis going the way of other developers on this

How did you feel about it forcing you to swap civs mid game? I feel like that’s a change I would struggle to get over

Civ swapping isn't great but does keep things fresh.

Likes:
Graphical layout, smooth gameplay, the way the resources work, new happiness resource, decent graphics minus the leader looks, influence and diplomacy, the looks of the water and the coastlines, the map takes longer to fully reveal, the continuation of the hex map configuration

Dislikes:
The map scrolling is still a drag and not fast enough on console, I'm sure PC has wider adjustment range, severe lack of world/game creation parameters in a new game, odd whimsical/horror-inducing off-pitch melodies and harmonies in the score played by flutes or whistles, all units disappearing on age progression (that one surprised me a lot), the city-states don't seem to grow at all throughout a whole game, the hard ending if another civ hits a method of winning (there's no toggles to adjust or remove these on console): that means you can't just keep on playing hundreds of turns and Boliterate everyone

I've played all except 5 I think, might pick this up for PC bet it would be more customizable

I was into one of these games way back in the day cuz I had a wrist injury and my left arm was wrapped in a cast. I could only use my right hand and I was on disability leave from work, so this game was perfect to pass the time, as it was turn based and I could play with one hand...

I remember you'd have to pick a country to lead, your character was effectively immortal.. and if you wanted more resources you could battle neighboring countries. Is Ghandi the leader of India for this one? Cuz he wouldn't exactly be the one to lead a nation to armed combat...

In the first Civ game, Gandhi had a bug where he would be super agressive, and just nuke the shit out of everybody. Whether that is true or not has been debated to death (though the creator says no), in V and VI they made it so that randomly he would also nuke the shit out of you.

Yeah it really sounds like they released a beta version of the game.

5 was great. I liked the art direction of that one the most. I’m sure the graphics look dated now but I remember it looking great. It’s also the first one that changed from tiles to hexagons and did away with the doom stacking armies. It was a controversial choice at the time

Oh that was the first, that's right, drfinitel played it. Maybe it was 3 I skipped, actually I'm sure it was.

Cool thing about that type of game is the graphics don't matter as much as most games

Big fan of the early Civ games and have a buddy who can annihilate the fastest rocket launch and earliest in game date rocket launch world records for Civ 1, he just hasn't recorded it but I've seen him do it.

The later ones seem to have lost something with all the added bells and whistles. I bought Civ 6 for Switch I think and played it for maybe an hour... Should pick it back up probably...

For RTS games I always preferred Empire Earth or Age of Empires/Mythology

Being able to play with a mouse made this great for hotseat gameplay. My best friend and I played a ton of Civ 5 locally. I always have my PC hooked into a big screen, so it was handy that we could each have a mouse and it be all we really needed.

I've said this in other Civ threads, but my buddy that I used to play Civ 5 with, it was his first Civ game. He likes to think of himself as a Buddhist, so he was happy to build near Ghandi when India was in a game we started up after he learned the ropes. I warned him how bipolar he behaved, but he refused to believe it would be as bad as I said, and wanted him as an ally. It wasn't long into Ghandi having Nukes that he declared war on him for no reason and never stopped tossing nukes. It was hilarious. I wish I recorded it.
