The Russian election should be the easiest to predict.

Mexican elections will surely will define the country for the next 10-20 years.

Also, all you colonies of the US, China, and Russia, need to calm down.

Your votes don't matter.

Anyone representing an actual grassroots movement?

Lopez Obrador is easily the one that garners the most popular support, but i think Anaya will be better.

That being said if Meade wins Mexico is fucked.

Oh do say more...

Hard to say, pretty much all parties agree that free market economics is the best course of action, the stage is on how to tackle corruption and crime.

1.- The current party in power wont even acknowledge corruption and crime is an issue, so if that wins we are fucked.

2.- One says corruption is the biggest issue, but says that we require a good honest leader to tackle it.

3.- The third party says that corruption will always exist so we need independent autonomous institutions because the issue is not corruption but impunity.

I subscribe to the third, but will vote against the one that has the highest likehood of tackling the current party.

Interesting. Names to description?

The Americans will try to influence your elections is my guess. Actually I am sure that since you are right next door to them they have their hands in the country somehow.

{<huh}

why will this change things for 10 or 20 years? and by the way if you look at these elections this year for many countries it will change and shape the policy for the next 10- 20 years it seems to. I agree but why is it for Mexico?

Too many and too complex to put in a few words.

But certainly things are heating up badly.

Keep us updated as the guy on the ground. I'm definitely interested to see what happens down south.

America doesnt really cares about Mexico as long as certain things are being followed by the government of Mexico.

Because there are tons of Mexicans who are against it and the current regime is broken and fighting on its back, but thats when they are the most dangerous.

Well, currently the big show is that the governor of Chihuahua has uncovered a big PRI (party in power) illegal financing scheme that involves the former secretary of tresaury, one major political player and the current presidential candidate for PRI.

PRI federal government of course has tried as hard as it can to stop said investigation and its currently witholding federal funds, which is seen as a big case in centralism vs federalism.

Also Chihuahua state has issued a warrant for the ex-governor who was a big player in the illegal financing of PRI, but the ex-governor is in the USA so the federal government is refusing to ask for extradition.

This is reaching critical levels because they cant hide it anymore, they are desperate, the former governor could literally destroy the

Right wing and nationalist ideals are constantly growing and spreading in the US. I think you maybe be surprised at the political climate that is established in the next 5 years.

That sounds like a "chicken and the egg" dilemma, isn't it? In a world already enthralled by corruption, who could possibly build those strong institutions immune to corruption, before they're corrupted themselves?

I'd love to see PBP mega-threads on the next Brazilian and Mexican elections, just for the jaw-dropping WTF factor.

I mean, check out this crap:

Brazil's Lula, Bolsonaro well positioned for 2018 elections

r

RIO DE JANEIRO (Reuters) - Brazilian Former President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and right-wing congressman Jair Bolsonaro would make it to a second round of voting in the 2018 presidential elections if they were held today, an Ibope poll showed on Sunday.

The poll, published in the O Globo newspaper, showed center-left Lula winning 35 to 36 percent of the vote in the October 2018 race regardless of the candidates he theoretically runs against.

Law-and-order congressman Bolsonaro, whose popularity has been spurred by rising violence in cities like Rio de Janeiro that were hard-hit by the country’s troubled economy, would win 15 percent if he faced off against Lula.

Marina Silva, Former Environmental Minister for Lula, would take third placed in any voting field that included Lula as a candidate with 8 to 11 percent of the vote. Silva would tie with Bolsonaro for first place if Lula were out of the picture.

Despite Lula’s popularity, his political future hangs in the balance after he was convicted in July of receiving bribes from a construction firm in return for help winning government contracts. In August, he said his Workers Party might have to run a different candidate.
