Hey guys, I bought a house the Christmas before last Christmas
Let's talk about it
It's an oldie but a goodie - lots of old classic sweet woodwork including stair rail etc
I was hoping to get a real deed like in the movies but they don't do that now a days I suppose.
The land was registered in 1912 so I think the house was built in 1920, but it's a damn good house, sturdy foundation.
claw foot tub situation we had to modify into a shower cause there was none, just put up a ring and a curtain around it for now, makeshift shower thingy
Not a lick of insulation!!!
We insulated the attic and two rooms, working on my office now.
Old but decent condition plaster and lathes in all rooms, taking out the outer walls and putting in bats and vapor barrier, new gyprock walls, keeping all interior plaster walls
Took the chimney down to second floor to make hallway bigger, it was already below roof level removed when we got it
We got a pantry! Going to move the washer and dryer in the basement soon.
All the light fixtures were knob and tube before we rewired it - now all modern wiring
Got a garage and shed and sweet lawn, our property size is seriously sweet you guys, 3 houses touch one side of the square of the property.
No trees tho
Me and the wife are going to go tree shopping along the highway and bring some home to plant
We got it for 66 grand after they marked it down from 99 grand. House is valued at 99 grand and rising with my repairs
An old lady who never married owned it and loved the house, makes me sad tho. No kids but her nieces and nephews got it and didn't need or want it so sold it on the cheap and quick to get rid of it ...to me
One time an old confused man came by looking for her. Gladys? Where's Gladys !?!? Ummm... she moved out 8 months ago .... was awkward and sad
Neighbours are nice, neighbourhood is nice. Mostly families with kids or older people. Quiet. Fun. Lived in town and if I was outside someone would walk by and want something from me like Got a smoke?" or "Got any change", first time someone walked by my new place I was wondering what they would say and got "Beautiful day today!" ... hell yeah it's a beautiful day that was a very pleasant exchange from a stranger I love it!
Fix er upper, lots of work and lots of fun, I love paying mortgage to something I'll own than give it to the cartoon landlord I used to have.
My wife's Dad has been great and is so knowledgable and helped me so much cause my real Dad fucked off when I was a kid.
Life is good forClippy right now you guys just thought I would share cause I love to hear myself talk some times.
Having a quick breakfast of trail mix, cashews are awesome and then will lug all these bricks to the garage for now
P.S. Pics or it didn't happen, I know, but I don't have time to post pics right now.
TLDR: I bought a house and did stuff to it, good times.
