This Marlon Moraes situation is frustrating

That was kind of a weird one. I still feel like that fight could have been stopped and it would've put Marlon back in the win column, instead the ref let Merab take a beating (twice) and let the fight go longer than it should have. Good for Merab to survive and finish a totally gassed opponent, but that should've been a TKO win for Marlon.

I know...coulda, woulda, shoulda, but still....

Thing is that Marlon gassed in 3 minutes in a fight where he was destroying his opponent - you’d think a fighter with his technique/power would pick his shots but he literally gassed himself almost out of panic that he wasn’t getting a finish.

Similar to Leonardo Santos vs Clay Guida except Santos was 42 and a LW, so his excuses are far better than Marlon.

Rough decline to witness, seems like a good guy.

The offense is still there. You can see the talent. There are just simply too many killers at BW and too many issues with his ability to withstand damage. The uppercut was nice, but it should've been a knockdown instead of a knockout.

If Dana matches him against O'Malley next, I'm going to lose my mind.
i still say he would destroy omalley

Give him someone pillow fisted next.. Frankie or Ricky Simon or something.

Him vs Cody No love will be a guaranteed Fun fight

He's had a Renan Barao like drop off. Looked like a killer then 1 fight later he can't even win a fight in the UFC. Crazy stuff.

Wonder if it's menta, physical, or a combination of both.

Mate I 100% agree with the Barao parallel, I thought the exact same thing, it's crazy where he was and now he's ranked #10 and losing.

Yeah it’s an unfortunate situation for him because he does looks like a very talented fighter before getting clipped. I don’t think he should retire, but he needs to start thinking about his long term health.

They aren’t paying him his win bonus and he is giving up spectacular wins to rising prospects. Might be money worth it.
Yeah they can probably get a couple more beatings off him until he's unranked then he'll be cut asap.

This isn't uncommon tho sometimes a fighter just takes a beating like henry gave him and never recover.

I think the question is if Henry showed Moraes would wilt or if he broken him. But there is zero question that fight was the inflection point in his career.

Garbrandt is the fight to make. Very good chance we get the first double KO in UFC.

Cody vs Garbrandt for loser leaves town belt

I’ve never seen a fighter go from “fuck yeah I’m going to kill everyone” to “please stop I’m tired, it hurts!” as drastically as Moraes goes in fights, the Cejudo fight is a great example.

I think it s psychological issues. He just folds. Been like that for a while now.

Honestly there are a lot of fighters like that. Look at Marlon's big 3 fight winning streak. All quick in the first round. He puts full effort into getting his opponent out of there in the beginning of the fight. It works until it doesn't.

I just rewatched Moraes vs Baldo (as well as the Cejudo fight), and this time I ignored the horribly biased commentary, and scored it 29-28 for Moraes. He clearly won round 1, while Baldo slightly edged him out in round 2, and I gave round 3 to Moraes (more sig. strikes landed). Baldo spent most of the fight following him around the cage. You can't score a fight for someone based on "center cage control" and "forward movement", just because someone is backing up doesn't mean they're losing. Then Dana with his big mouth at the post-fight presser saying Aldo won, even I thought Baldo got robbed at first. But after rewatching, it was a very close fight with Moraes edging him out. Even the UFC stats show Moraes landing more sig. strikes in rounds 1 and 3, and not to mention the takedown in rd 1.
