UFC is successful because of Dana White and whoever controls the money, if you own a business a guy like Dana White is exactly who you want running it, a guy who negotiates and is willing to play hardball/dirty whether it's over 1-2K in prelim contracts or 1-2 million for the biggest star even though the company is valued at 4+ billion with 300+ million yearly profit.

Dana hates GSP because GSP has never kissed Dana's ass, he called Dana and the UFC out on their bullshit, he never talked shit or created fake drama to sell a fight, he was responsible for stronger drug testing (USADA) being implemented by the UFC, he didn't accept peanuts and because of him fighters are paid more in general, he retired on his own terms and he went out on top as the champ not once, but twice. GSP truly is the GOAT.

I'm not a GSP fan and def didn't like the Bisping thing. Thought it actually tarnished his legacy. However, this is ridiculous. He fought all comers during his reign. It was very impressive.

I'm not gonna continue arguing with you. GSP has never played the victim. I'm pretty sure the guy doesn't know how to be carniving or put up a front. In the Ariel interview you're talking about he even acknowledges that now that he's retired it might be for the best as he might get have gotten his ass kicked. How's that for honesty?

And of course it would be a big money fight, but Dana knows the price of that if GSP won - one of their biggest stars in Khabib loses his invincibility and his belt and GSP retires again, therefore making any other LW title fight redundant. He's a business man and also holds unreasonable grudges - he hates GSP for vacating the MW strap and making a shitshow out of the MW division for a while there. He doesn't want that again in any division.

And that last sentence is also a lie. GSP was still in the USADA testing pool during that period as he was still under contract and hadn't formerly retired until the beginning of this year.

Also have a look at the date on the Ariel interview. It's the same day he announced his retirement which was February this year and he was chasing the fight as he explained on the JRE podcast late last year. Because you're lazy and don't do your homework, here's the interview. He spells out the whole timeline in the first two minutes:

right after ufc 229 gsp was instudio on ariel show and said i dont have the fire to fight any more.

no gsp removed him from the testing pool when he did his pr retirement and to use the media to blame the ufc for him quitting.

conor fight khabib shows ufc doesnt care if one of there stars fights someone that he will likely lose to. so saying khabib losing to gsp would kill the ufc is wrong.

Well seems like most people here get it. Dana is an ass. He loves the "just bleed" and "let me bang" types that are easy to control and are content fighting for peanuts. GSP knew what he was worth and was able to maintain leverage by holding the title for a few years.

He also fought very safe, which probably isn't the best for PPV sales.

You give Dana far too much credit and underestimate how petty he is. He knows it's true. He knows GSP has more respect amongst the MMA community than he does. It's not a battle he will come out looking good. Khabib will probably vouch for Georges too.
