This is Igor.....for you noobs

Igor was always one of my favorites but his loss to Tra Telligman is still a WTF moment for me, I expected Igor to simply run over Tra... Imagine if he had both pecs!

His loss to Coleman is also a low moment and that one always seemed to bother him the most since he could have won the Grand Prix with that win.

Then that Cro cop KO ended things for him at the highest level. Which also hurt me because Igor seemed to be in the best shape I ever saw him for that fight.
Tra was a good fighter. And Igor had 70+ fights. (51st fight vs Tra) No shame in losing every once in a while when you have that many fights. Igor also had his moments in that fight.

Coleman also had a much easier path to the finals that night. He first fought Shoji that night and then Fujita's corner threw in the towel 5 seconds into the fight while Igor had to go to war with Big Daddy and then 10 minutes with Sakuraba. Coleman may have still won if both were fresh but we will never know. We do know Igor could beat Kerr though.

Why don't you recall him being outstruck badly by Tra Telligman?

And I don't really see Yvel as a good striker really...he comes from that background, he trained with them, he had KO power - but never a technician.
And IIRC - Igor went full sambo with Satake - rightfully so, too.

I don't believe prime Wanderlei vs primer Igor being 50/50.
I believe Igor would've been outstruck badly, and KOd eventually. Maybe by some dirty technique that Wandy preferred, but he would've stopped Igor.
Look how many fights Igor had. No shame in losing a decision to Tra after 50+ fights. You fight that much, you are bound to have a few losses. Other guys with less fights have had more bad performances. And Yvel was a very good striker, very dangerous.

Most of modern day Sherdog are just turning 18 so they wouldn't know who Igor was.

They'll chime in and throw a Conor gif somewhere here just watch "Who da Fook is day guy" bullshit.
You are turning a week old tomorrow.

I agree, but I really think that he lost to Telligman not due to wear and tear.
Telligman was hands down the best boxer Igor ever faced and exploited that. He was not lucky there.

Yes - good and dangerous for MMA standards.
But I doubt he's elite level kickboxer, or MT fighter.

Igor would k0 most of the ufc hw division today
But that future GOAT that just lost to Derrick Lewis hits harder than a Ford Escort!! I've never heard Dana White say something like that about this guy. Are you saying he's better than 2017's UFC HW top contender and future of the division, that elite brawler Ngannou? I heard many UFC shills and newer fans say he's the greatest New Breed HW Cain.

Igor made a guy tap from headbutts from the bottom. HEADBUTTS FROM THE BOTTOM.

best in thread.

He was good for his time, but modern day HWs would crush him easily.

whenever someone says "So-and-so" today would _______ to _________",

about a fighter who succeeded during the time of headbutts, i immediately think 2 things:

1. they fer sure were not a fan during the time of head butts
2. they fer sure never trained during the time of head butts.

P.S.

before 1 of 1 geniuses asks:
yep. im 44, and on the daily used to train headbutts with Don Frye, Coleman, Kerr, and there was no one in the gym who could head butt harder than tiny headed Homer Moore.

They didn’t ring the church bells for nothing when Igor was angry!

Kerr and...?

Who's that?

Yvel? Was he an actual champion?

Satake and...?

You're not proving that your point of Igor facing "truck drivers" isn't patently false. I'm not sure you know how to frame a successful argument.

Nutter and Coleman wrestled for Ohio State and were beasts. Kerr was out of Syracuse and a beast. Bobish wasn't out of a D1 school but still a beast. All decorated NCAA wrestlers. Kondo is a former King of Pancrase and Kenpo guy like Chuck Lidell. If you don't know who Mirko is then I can't help you. Sperry is a BJJ Black Belt under Carlson Gracie. Takada was a catch wrestler and Judo Black Belt. Matsui a shoot wrestler and also a Judo Black Belt who happened to take Wand and Vitor to decisions.

Again, your point is garbage and patently false.

I'm still sad we didn't get Igor vs Wand in PRIDE.

Man, it would have been utter violence for as long as it lasted.... Wand had a bit of a better chin back then, but he was never a granite-chinned type guy like Big Nog, Rampage, Hendo... I have to believe Igor would have eventually caught him. Never know... Wand was a different animal back then.

One of my favorite Wand fights was Fajita.. awesome fight and finish..

.
that was tough to watch. I remember thinking that he must have feared for his life/ability to move his limbs. Those were life threatening knees to the head. I cant think of a scarier position to be in. There was a good chance he could have lost the use of his arms and legs during that
