We've seen it a couple of times. When a dominant champ loses, he often falls into a losing streak and never comes back as good as he was before.
Fedor, Anderson, Liddell, Hughes, Wand to name a few.
The thing is, Aldo is still young. If he comes back as good as he's ever been and beats decisevely Frankie, then he could regain that belt and defend it for another couple of years (and I doubt Conor will ever come back to 145).
If he loses against Frankie, then I really think he'll never regain that belt.
