I remember hearing about this some time ago, so it randomly popped into my mind today and I was like ''did the dude pull it off?'' and went checking on google, and nope, he had to call it off here, 87km in after 33 days (he needed to swim 3000 km in total..):

What made him desist? was it a shark? no, although he was stalked by a 10ft shark; the currents? no, although the waves flipped him over numerous times; was it the weather? no, although storms badly damaged his support boat, it was this thing that finally stopped him:

He was stung by a portuguese man o' war, in his words "Excruciating and debilitating pain all down my right side from ear to toe. Rolling eyes. Partial paralysis. Dribbling, slurred speech. Struggling to maintain consciousness. Blood pressure plummeted to 80/40 before stabilising. I was 10 minutes from dying''

I didn't see that coming.

Shouldn't this be in the "like a boss" thread?

Did he have a flotation device, and just sleep, eat and drink and shit while floating, or did he get into boat for all that?

This made me wonder what the record was, I found this:

"SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico -- Penny Palfrey, an Australian-British swimmer mother-of-three, braved shark-infested waters become the first person to swim the nearly 70 miles (112 kilometres) between Grand Cayman island and Little Cayman in the Caribbean in 40 hours and 41 minutes , setting the world record for the Longest solo unassisted ocean swim."

I'm sure the waters play a role or maybe weather, but just 87km in 33 days, this mother of three did 112km in 40 hours.

It looks like he swam a long ass way. How many miles is that?

55 miles in 33 days (but he lost 15 days to bad weather apparently).

Did he have a flotation device, and just sleep, eat and drink and shit while floating, or did he get into boat for all that?

He ate and slept on the boat, but the crew would bring him back where he stopped swimming.

He needs to have someone travel with him to urinate on him in these circumstances.

I'm sure the old man was like -

some of these records are lame as fuck (especially when they fail) and it just seems like a, "hey i don't like working in front of a computer... i wonder if people will give me money to work out."

See I would just preemptive in that case and swim just a little out in front of him and be peeing constantly to ensure this never happened.

"Oh hi Mark, I'm going to swim across the Atlantic Ocean. Ha ha ha"

always thought man o wars were awesome creatures. They look like something strait out of a lovecraft book

Mindless stinging things aren't that cool.

I have a bit of a fear of the deep sea so trying to swim it.....

I would rather stay on dry land where mammaries , I mean mammals, live.

Those men of war need to go back to Portugal where they came from!

Not in my ocean.

This should be in British Man Called Jumping Jack Star Jump 2
