They had to pay Conor somehow (Romero)

Romero is “on the decline” as Dana says, and at 300-400k a fight cutting him three fights short basically pays a Conor show money for free. All revenue after that. Had to get it done somehow....

Romero's pay for one fight pay for the whole years worth of contracts of DWCS winners.

Lol at it paying Conor's show money...

They could always just pay Conor with the 80 something percent of the revenue that doesnt go toward fighter pay ‍♂️

You could CHOOSE to look at it that way. Choose Romero. Or choose a number of other fighters. You're only speaking to Conor's value to the UFC.

Ah well I’m sure he isn’t going to be too upset. A pay off and having a crack as a free agent will be fine. He is a rare case of a legit top contender not fighting in the UFC.

Bellator is the clear choice. 3 fight deal, allowed sponsors again, Bad for the fans but for him not a big loss.

A ridiculous thread. The whole premise is flawed. They only have to pay a fighter when they fight. How many times has either guy fought in the last 4 years? It's not they have to rob Peter to pay Paul. Like 300-400K.

Come on, man.

Literally has nothing to do with Conor. It's about WME struggling and realizing they don't need to spend as much money on non draws and instead sign cheaper young talent.

I didn't know that (right to release). So he got his show money which is probably still around 500k for three fights.
You are still not getting it. They pay him nothing. Getting released means your contract is VOID and you are free to go find employment wherever you like. You only get SHOW money for showing up to fight. Frankly he should not have been given his SHOW money for his fight with Izzy since he didn't exactly show up to fight for that one.

huge if true. damn, thats fucked up.

Romero had his chances, and he had way more than anyone. He's literally 1-4.
3 of those losses are championship fights and the 4th is to Costa in a highly entertaining fight.

He is just too expensive, he is for sure top10 fighter and exciting and a draw.

For one Romero, Dana can pay 4 or 5 upcoming MW fighters.

Such a shame the premier org will cut a top10 talent, but it won't be the last time. It's all about $$, and Romero is not a good return anymore.

Shame, as I think his fights are always worth watching

Futbol Players who are getting released get mostly a big fat compensation. Thats the reason I thought Homero is getting some Dinero.

I think Romero got at least 500k compensation for the termination of the contract without fighting / instead of getting around 500k - 1 Million (win bonuses etc) for his last 3.

Sauce?

Guaranteed contracts are great for the players but that is only seen in the NHL, NBA & MLB in North America. Even NFL contracts are not guaranteed and a player can be cut with out future salary being paid. That's why signing bonuses and front loaded contracts are common for big stars in the NFL. UFC contracts are HEAVILY weighted in the UFC's favour.

Romero should go fight overseas in these one off fights and make big pay days. Just destroying dudes

Romero was pampered. he got way more than he deserved at times, both in titleshots and salary. The final straw was that shitshow against Adesanya. He's got no one to blame but himself.

I didn't knew that. Thank you for explaining Bro.

Lol..he fought the absolute elite. He will beat most of the 3-15 ranked guys and is very popular. The only reason he got cut is cause the UFC is transforming into a full contender/regional promotion with only a few $100k+ fighters. If I was a bilionair, I would create a new promotion, take most of the big UFC guys, pay them bigger revenue and make monthly shows. Cards like last nights are really only marginally better than a Bellator card.

Look at you blaming everything on Conor. Do you think Khabib will ever say "Thank You," to you for hating on Conor?

Nah the UFC is trying to get that $100 mil together to get Khabib to come back
