Social They gave my son an insect to eat in school

This is my first time hearing the "make the children eat bugs" conspiracy theory. What is the end game here? Does it have something to do with making them gay?

This is why you should re-elect Tromp!! If not your school kids will eat more bugs!!!

I've seen the "eat bugs" propaganda for a few years now. Was even heavier up until about a year ago; BBC was running stories about how great it is, saw articles on it, so you know it was getting "the push," and it was obvious.

So they gave the kids grasshoppers in school today; 6th grade. I didn't make a deal about it, because my son actually talked about wanting to try it. Well, he did today, and he thought it was terrible.

So anyways the social push for people to start eating insects has reached middle school.

Should I be mad they gave my kid a chile lime grasshopper today? Has everybody noticed this push over the last few years?
Pissed about a grasshopper but you don't say shit about the sugar, or the disease causing meat/dairy they probably feed him every day.

This is called fads. As far as the 80’s I remember the news reporting on it. Worms where a thing too. Insects should be fed to hipsters imo.

Why would you be mad that the school gave your kid something that is commonly consumed around the world? I had them just recently in Mexico.

Arachnids are a common food item here in the US. Why not other Arthropoda?

"social push for people to start eating insects"

A trend that's finally come along I can relate to!
I'm hip again!

And my neighbors all point and laugh at me- well, they'll see who's laughing now!

"push" might be a strong word. ive heard a few people talking about it here and there. i seriously doubt that your son's school district has some initiative to push bug eating. this was likely the notion of a single teacher or a department in the school.

and we have a cultural taboo of sorts against eating bugs. but like jim gaffigan points out, whats the difference really in a bug and a shrimp? is your son allowed to eat crab?

what about hot dogs? surely you've seen how those are made........

Hey, sewer rat may taste like pumpkin pie, but I'd never know 'cause I wouldn't eat the filthy motherfucker.

Uhh I'm not right wing. Yes, I was 100% seeing propaganda puttingvrepeated positive light on eating bugs------- articles giving reasons for doing it, how common it was, how to make them. We were talking about it around here up until about a year ago; people in the West weren't ready. Dude, you think there isnt people deciding what to push through the media? That's not a conspiracy, that's common sense.

Just so I am clear, are the milk and beef ads propaganda? You don’t seem to differentiate between a company/industry promoting and propaganda. Also, who, specifically, other than the insect producers would benefit from producing pro-insect propaganda?

You should be furious. First its a chile lime grasshopper. Next thing you know the kids are gay muslim trannys who identify as illegal Mexicans.

Slippery slope imo

grasshoppers aren't that uncommon of a bug to eat. i've seen it on a lot of menus traveling outside of the US, so i wouldn't be freaking out.

but there's no "social push" to eat insects. don't make shit up. right wing circle jerks are annoying when they do this shit.
You sound poor.

I expect better than this from you. 2/10 for this zinger.

Some of us think it's a way of prepping people for life after the next crash.

I’ve noticed. The non elites will have bugs and fake meat to eat while the elites enjoy that amazing steak

No it has to do with "Climate Change" of course. This is partially about marketing these cricket-infused (must be crickets because they're the only kosher insect) products to the "Guilty of existing" crowd of leftists. And partially about the doomsday cult of climate change.

https://www.vice.com/en_us/article/qbnd5v/why-the-future-of-food-is-bugs

According to the UN, there are several reasons we should look to insects for food: First, they're highly nutritious. Mealworms have roughly the same amount of iron and protein as beef. Greenhouse gases could be significantly reduced by switching to insect farming, too—mealworms generate ten to 100 times fewer greenhouse gases per kilo than pigs. The report also cites population growth and strain on the environment as a reason to look for radical ways to increase the food supply of humans and animals.

It's also tremendously dehumanising, of course the upper class will continue eating their kobe beef steaks. Though for the rest of us the goal is to outlaw cattle and ensure that the only ones eating bugs will be the only ones NOT starving.

I propose that the correct solution for the sorts of people who want to force the population into becoming locust-eaters is to rip their arm off and eat it in front of them. For the purposes of reducing human carbon emissions of course.

it's affordable protein that's better for the environment. these are facts not some dorky agenda. it's good for all of us if future generations are brought up with this being normal instead of having an irrational bias towards insect protein.

Cricket protein bars cost more per pound than beef. Though the economic angle of eating locusts isn't the only factor at play here.
