There is no way fig makes weight again at 125

DJ was 142 on fight night in the Cejudo rematch. Alex Perez weighed 146 on fight night. It's a big jump but not unusual. Nothing too crazy.

There has to be a rule that you can't go more than 1 weightclass down from your walk around weight. Extreme weightcuts are just too brutal, physically and mentally
One seems to be doing a good job. With the hydration test and weight monitoring during camps. UFC will need a fighter to die from cutting before they change anything, I think.

The difference is that those guys probably walk around at that weight. Fig reportedly walks around at 160ish, and can only replenish himself to 145ish by fight night. He's fighting depleted in there, and that can be very dangerous.

At 143, he's right on the edge of the 15% body weight hydration limit.

Its within the rules

The way Fig looked in his last fight makes me wonder if he's going to go on a Renan Barao type decline. He did not look good. It looks like they are going to book the trilogy and I don't see that going well for him

In 07 my senior year they did the same thing before the season started but it was unofficial, basically they were trying the process out on us to see if it worked. They had fat calipers to measure your body fat. I was at 7%. Then you had to pee in a cup for hydration test. I couldn't go lower than 125lb if this process was applied. Before this was implemented kids were dying from cutting too much weight. One kid slept in a black heavy duty garbage bag to sweat in his sleep and never woke up. That hit home with me because I also slept in garbage bags to sweat in my sleep. The most I cut was 10lbs tho.
We did the calipers in Florida (it was the athletic trainer so nothing official) but that was back in the late 90s. They would tell us the lowest we could safely go and then the coach would put us at one weight class lower. Fun times when your a teen with no body fat to begin with. Had to cut a bunch of weight for a tournament because the guy who was supposed to wrestle was way over and I was under for my class so the decision was made to swap us. Put on the space suit and started running. 2 minutes before the final weigh in and I was literally a hair over. Grabbed a pair of scissors and started chopping chunks of my hair out and made it. The wrestling life is no joke.

I actually like that idea, saying they cant weight more on fight night than the next weight class up.I use to cut weight in highschool for wrestling, I cut about 10 lbs to get down to 171 and it was pretty tough because I was super skinny back then, like no fat at all. But I did it to avoid wrestling at 189 where there were 200+ lb gorillas cutting down to make it.

Edit: I wrestled the the ohio state champ in a tournament at 189 and got slaughtered, dude had a mustache lol
I respect the workouts you guys put yourself through...and after a long day of class work... Crazy work ethic.

Problem with Figgy is that he has stupid low bodyfat already.

Cody is "softer". I do think he could make 125lbs easier than Figuereido.

BTW... I think Figuereido needs to move to 135lbs before he turns into FLW Renan Barao

Thats a bullshit rule

Fighters used to cut 20% body weight, so the 15% cap was actually an improvement.

Its not like Figgy is gaining an advantage on the field, because no one fights at natural weight class.

Personally I'd prefer same day weigh ins

That rule doesn't exist is what I'm saying. There is no 15% cap at all, the only thing was one of the commission's, I think it was nsac from memory, suggest fighters move up if they weigh in more 15% over on fight night

The Californian Athletic Commission implemented it initially and thereafter Nevada State Athletic Commission later adopted it. They're the 2 biggest commissions, so it is de facto a rule change.

I believe its a fine for 1st offence with weight loss monitoring at intervals during camp for subsequent fight. 2nd offence they "recommend" you move up, but if they won't sanction your fight at the lower weight class, it's more than a recommendation.

If fighters break the 15% cap outside their jurisdiction, they can't fine them but it will effect whether they sanction their future fights at that weight class. US commissions are also hesitant to sanction things other commissions have declined.

Hence fighters are keeping to the 15% cap. Once the IV ban was introduced, cutting to the older scale was getting dangerous
