There’s no reason Khabib shouldn’t have been able to get the finish.

i reckon khabib should have beat him by majority decision after running away for half the fight, like conor did vs nate
Ah cause that’s definitely the same circumstance as an 11th ranked one day replacement. You are totally right smh

"There is no excuse for that."

Well, why would he need one? To satisfy you?

Doubt he cares. Winning is all that counts.

To me, it should be the same shit Jones got for not finishing OSP. If you are supposedly that much better and fighting a last minute replacement there is no excuse.
Like when Conor had to face Diaz the first time, right?

You're not always gonna get the finish. And where a guy is ranked is not some absolute measurement of how well they'll do. Al Quinta is a good fighter with good ground skills and pretty excellent take down defense. Was probably extra motivated to pull off an upset as well.

Also they were both stepping in on short notice, so he point about Al being a last minute replacement is kinda stupid.

He could have RNC'ed him several times, but he chose to maintain position.

He could also have chased a choke and gotten reversed.

He took the safe bet. GSP used to do this alot.

The fight ended with a finish. I’m not sure how they are even remotely related other than Diaz was a replacement fighter. So no not like that.

A more accurate example would be Conor vs Mendes.

Dude has defeated his last 2 opponents with a combined score of 80-68.

Think about that

And GSP rightfully got shit for it as should khabib.

That's illogical.

Imagine you spend 3 months focusing on every way you're going to create an opening on one guy. You learn the ins and outs of his style. You have a perfect idea of what to do...and then he's gone.

So they give you another guy. You have 6 days to make a rushed plan that skips the specifics and just gets the job done. This guy is physically and stylistically different from the first guy by a wide margin. So you do your best and prep for him...and he's gone.

So you have the 3rd guy, who is nothing like the other 2. You have no time to plan so you just gotta play it by ear. You don't know what to exploit or how to exploit it. You use your basic tool and trust your gut until you win.

At the same time this guy is doing everything in his power to make it to the bell. That is goal #1. He is in there to make your job as hard as possible. No matter how close you come to finishing him he refuses to give up.

MMA is a complicated dance. It takes both sides to get a finish. The winning side needs to do everything right. The losing side needs to make one big mistake. Al did not make that mistake.

Shit happens sometimes. With a better game plan Khabib could have gotten that finish but he didn't. Still won every second of the fight so fuck it.

Because Conor was supposedly the "better" fighter and he could't finish Diaz when he was supposed to.

You keep saying "last minute replacement" as if Iaquinta hadn't trained at all. Iaquinta had been in a fight camp for Felder, who actually has won two fights in a row via ground and pound, so he would've been training and drilling defence for that, plus Iaquinta is a damn good fighter and tough as fuck

Or you can ignore all that and just shit on Khabib for no reason

Khabib clearly went easy on Al. Kind of like a thank you for taking the fight on short notice.

Thats what happens when you keep it in your pocket.
