I'm not a big Conor fan. His fights were always good and he certainly has heaps of skill. If he does truly retire, other than losing a high level fighter, I think the biggest loss is what he could have potentially accomplished not in mma but for it.

Fighters like Mendez and Diaz weren't making over 100k in their previous fights to my knowledge. Then they get 500k just to show up against Conor. I always sorta hoped Conor would become like the Mayweather of MMA, but bring everyone along with him, or, at the very least, show them how to go from making peanuts to serious money.

I can definitely see the UFC putting an end to all that now. While Conor made them a lot of money, he also cost them a lot of money also. They aren't going to want a heap of fighters trying to emulate his success. A lot of fighters will probably talk shit about Conor for going out the way he did, but then they'll be going back to making peanuts not millions.

He was changing bum lives, one fight at a time.

MMA needs someone like Conor, or else there will never be a fighter's Union.

Conor cares about Conor.

He aint starting a union. lol

Conor cares for himself and no one else. Fucking lol at thinking that he would start a fighters' union.

I can honestly see the UFC being scared of giving another fighter those sorts of pay days. It allows them to make better decisions and gives them too much power. Happened with Randy (not quite the same), GSP and now it could happen with Conor.

Worse thing is all those fuck knuckle fans he brought with him into the sport will linger around spilling incessant shit about how great he was for all of fucking eternity.

I'm sure it evened out.

Right. That's the thing though. With a lot of other fights I don't think it does even out. With a lot of fighters, the UFC make a ton off them and don't pay them a fraction of what they bring in.

Yeah, this is exactly what I was trying to say pretty much. UFC won't be handing out that sort of power again.

I can see a lot of potential athletes who might've gone into fighting go to other sports that pay more. This already happens of course.

The worst thing is that Aldo no longer has the chance to avenge his loses.

Why do people give so many fucks about how much a fighter makes? Who cares whether they make 5 figures or 7 figures? How does it affect you personally?

Who's bum life did he ever change except from his own? He was the only one collecting government benefits a couple of years ago.
He wasn't a millionaire after he fought Brimage, Brandao, and Holloway. Mendes, Aldo and Diaz were already millionaires by the time he met them.

Quite literally the only bum life he ever changed was his own. As it should be.

Hey, that's a fair question. It doesn't affect me personally at all, but then, neither does the UFC or MMA as a whole either. I'm a fan of MMA though, and I want to see the best fights possible.

In my mind, people getting paid more is going to lead to higher skill levels among more competition. As an MMA fan, this is what I want.

I could be wrong, but I highly doubt Nate was a millionare. For a millionare, he whined way too much about being broke.

What about fighters like Chad? Like I said earlier, he went from making under 100k a fight to 500k just to show up. I'm not saying Conor went out and demanded Chad be paid that much, but you can't deny that Conor was the only reason Chad was getting that sort of money.

The worst thing would be, not seeing a 100% fit Aldo in a war with CM

Diaz had $1.4 million disclosed earnings before the Connor fight. That doesn't include sponsorship, pre or post Reebok.

Chad lost a massive amount of sponsorship after the Reebok deal, so that extra $400k took him back up to what he was earning previously. His situation hasn't changed in any way since fighting Connor.

An obvious counter-point is that...his GREED may be been his undoing.

....which is basically the opposite of what you're saying.

So how did Chad making 100K or 500K directly affect you? Are you Chad's wife? Kid? Financial advisor? Does he owe you money? Are you his agent? No.

There's plenty of guys with way higher skill levels than Conor. Paying Conor and X opponent more does NOT increase either fighters skill levels among more competition whatever that means.

Really, I stand corrected then. I had no idea Diaz had made that much. 1.4 million over how ever many years he's being do it for doesn't seem like that much, but then there's all that sponsorship money you mentioned + other income he would've made (media events, seminars, etc.)

You sound like you're getting worked up for some reason. No idea why.

I get where you're coming from, so maybe I wasn't explaining myself right. All I was getting at was that more money going to fighters is better for both the fans and them. More money = better training, better camps, better everything. And look at some of the wages. I'm sure there have been plenty of young athletes who looked at getting paid hardly anything in regional shows to getting what? 8k/8k at first when they hit the UFC and just decided to focus their efforts on other sports.

More money is going to entice more and more people to come into MMA instead of going elsewhere. I can't see that being a bad thing for me or any other MMA fan. Does that make sense?
