the worst performance by a champion i've ever seen

Stipe at least rocked Ngannou that fight
Yeah he landed a punch in round 2 and then stepped forward and got folded. But maybe I shouldn't be so hard on Stipe because at HW it's easier to get knocked out.
Still.. round 1 I remember him basically running away and getting bullied. I remember feeling pretty disappointed.

DDP landed something too (after being stood up) in round 5 and didn't get finished, so I won't say it's the worst performance ever.

the thing is chimaev was barely even attempting submissions, it was 95% positional grappling and dricus had no basic defense

i've never seen somebody get caught in a crucifix so many times, it was bizarre

Khamzat is that good, and Dricus has work to do.

He’s a top game guy, look at his physique. Probably never plays guard much at all in the gym.

Everyone and their grandma knew he would be taken down by Khamzat. The fact that he didn’t bring in a world class bjj to help him level up is shocking to me. Considering he’s the former world champ and probably had some big pay checks.

Lol, I know you're joking, but DDP is still pretty young for a middleweight. I'm excited to see how/if he'll grow from this.
I mean he will, he has more interesting matchups still. Everyone but Khamzat is a striker mostly at MW.

But he has 5 more years MMA-experience than Khamzat, and had 6 months or so to train for this fight.

Seemed like he and his coach took a lot of confidence from his strength and his ability to muscle out of bad situations against worse grapplers.

I dunno Merab torched OMalley twice, that was probably more embarrassing because DDP at least defended well and fought back in the fifth
What? Defended what, subs ? I don't think DDP even realized how bad he just got beat up and might of been a little concussed. That was embarrassing for him and Khamzat I think had 20+ minutes of control time.

Grappling is important. Apparently Khamzat is actually pretty good at grappling. Would love to see him do a grappling match.

He should go grapple for good that wasn't fighting that was fkn grappling

Probably thought he could just out scramble Khamzat after getting taken down, didn’t work well for him because Khamzat just blanketed him lol DDP might have been able to get a few more standups if he’d been able to get to full guard.

But what I said had nothing to do with khamzat?

I thought Sean looked worse against Merab, DDP hung tough and refused to quit he deserves respect for that

I'm actually surprised that DDP survived the five rounds of this fight, but skill wise I think he was always behind Chimaev's grappling, not much to think here. This fight was supposed to end in the first rounds, not to go to decision, DDP did his best and it still wasn't enough, but some people struggle to accept that. He got absolutely outclassed.

You seem a bit salty.

Dricus and the champ are the same age, but Dricus has 5 more years experience of MMA.

I don't think he will make any great leaps to close that gap, given all the years he already has been training his wrestling and overall MMA-game, and the long camp he had to prepare for this fight.
