I remember the old video of the guys interviewing Forest Griffin and the ask him to kick the sound guy in the leg. Forest kicks the dude in the femur when he's standing straight up. Then they cut to the X-Ray of the guys femur with a hairline fracture. Good times.

That is terrible. Whether the kid can come back depends on the nature of the fracture and the Damage that was done. Looks bad for sure. I wonder if there was something wrong with his femur already. That is a very very strange place for that whole extended limb to give. The knee or the ankle should have blown more quickly than the femur bone, of course it's really hard to tell looking at the tape. Hope this kid can come back. Femur fractures can kill you. They are no joke but people can come back from them. Especially 21-year-old athletes who want it.

my very first thought was there could be a preexisting issue in that femur to weaken the bone. i hope the kid is ok.

A compound distal femur fracture… I think this is the worst injury I’ve ever seen in any combat sports, holy shit.
I really doubt the kid can come back from this one. Looks like a career ending injury, you can literally hear his thigh bone break in half.

Prayers to Dylan Reischman

“The femur is the longest, heaviest and strongest bone in your body. It takes tremendous force to break your femur.”
Holy shit, “just” by landing on it in a fight his femur breaks in half
Yeah it’s extremely hard to break. And to break it in essentially just a short body weight fall is even rarer.

A friend if mine sustained the same injury, not in a fight, but getting trampled in a mosh pit. Had to be evacuated by a helicopter, compound fracture, the works. I think it took a year for him to walk properly. Can’t imagine how long it would take to compete on a pro level.

I’ve seen an update video where he says he’s looking at about 6 months of recovery then getting back to it
yeah, more like getting back to this

He’ll be fine. You guys are acting like this is the worst thing you’ve seen on the internet lol

Does he have some kind of bone density problem? Not watching the video, but I have no idea how a femur breaks from MMA.

I could understand a car accident or falling from great height.

Not going to watch it but often the big factor with these kinds of injuries is actually have the joint/ligaments been damaged? the bone itself will generally heal pretty well.

Frank Mir for example seemed to come back pretty well from a Femur break, he was off form for a year or two but the injury did not seem to damage his mobility when he got in good shape.

Damn, that’s terrible.
How is your friend doing now?
