Atrocious match-making.

A guy who came off a first round KO of a former champion (who had never lost this way) with a unique skill-set has to fight the guy who had his shot and lost not too long ago?

If the Wonder Boy loses, he may need another 2-3 wins to get a title shot. Thompson is 33 and having speed benefits his style greatly. If you hold him back like this, his prime may pass without a single championship fight.

I agree, if Macdonald wins you can't put him in a title fight with Lawler straight away, WB should have gotten the shot and Macdonald should have fought somebody like Magny in the mean time and then WB vs. Rory should have been for the title.

Well shit. Im very happy your not the matchmaker.

This fight will be exciting, violent, and has title implications. Its a great fight.

Was wonderboy supposed to stand by until next year to get a shot?

Talk about letting his prime go by.

I'm just glad this is not boxing and we get to see fights like these constantly.
The last thing I want is a top 10 of guys that do not face each other.

The reason I don't like this fight is because they are two great fighters and I really don't enjoy watching either lose. Wonderboy is what Cung Le could`ve been if he came to MMA earlier and Rory is just Rory... no need to explain why I like him, hopefully.

I love the match up. Rory vs Thompson might be one of the most interesting fights of the year.

I don't understand why Tyron Woodley gets a title shot ahead of Thompson. But this is an awesome fight...

#1 vs #2 contender featuring two great fighters is atrocious matchmaking? Ok, fanboys are the worst

No it doesn't make any sense. I've no idea why Woodley is even getting the title shot over WB. He's been gone for a while and it's not like he's some super exciting fighter either.. UFC may be trying to set up Woodley vs. Rory II for the title since there's no way Rory deserves another crack at it as long as Lawler is champ. My tinfoil hat theory.

Sure you can. Both fights were back and forth and closely contested. Both fights won FOTN honours and of course the rematch winning FOTY. I could watch Lawler and Rory fight everyday.

If he doesn't get ever get a title fight, that's too bad. For him.

But this matchup? It fucking rules.

Pretty sure matchmaking is about the FANS, not about managing fighters' careers for them. It's a fair match rankings wise, it's an amazing match style wise, and if the guy's going to be at the top of the division, he needs to be able to beat the top guys. So he's not being done dirty here anyway.

But my point still stands: you seem to completely misunderstand the priorities of a matchmaker, which is why you think this amazing matchup is "atrocious," and why I'm glad Joe Silva has the job, not you. No offence, you seem like a nice chap and all, just not a great choice for UFC matchmaker lol

What the hell you taking about TS? This is example if great match making. I'm pumped.

Rory is the #1 contender. Why wouldn't he fight the guy who just knocked out the OTHER contender?

This should be a damn sweet match! Maybe, I'm just crazy but this has fireworks written all over it.

Huh? This fight is amazing. Stop worrying about what could happen later, and focus on what is going to be a fantastic matchup. Why even watch the sport if you don't want to see great fights?

Some people think way too much about title shots. If your not excited by the prospect of Rory vs Wonderboy, then your not a fan of MMA.

And props to the UFC for having the balls to make this fight happen.

Rory might have lost his shot, but he is still champion material. I love this fight just about as much as I hate it because it's ultimately MMA of the highest order between 2 top-tier fighters, neither of which I want to see lose. This is a great fight, with heavy implications. No idea what you're on about, ts.

Solid booking. I'd really like to see WB go over against Lawler. In Memphis.
