The weirdest fight you ever saw?

Paul Harris/Dan Miller
4.gif
Lol... and by saying Paul Harris you meant Palhares isn't...

Slice vs. Alexander when they both mutually agreed to stop fighting to take a "break". The look on Big John's face was priceless...

When Nick Diaz fought that Japanese guy with the weird "defensive" stance where he just allowed Diaz to punch tight through his hands/arms. It was bizarre; looked like he was on drugs.

Also, Quarry's post-fight Rocky IV speech following the Starnes fiasco remains one of my favorite moments ever.

In the locker room he was warming up by blocking punches with his own punches. Like wtf? When has that ever worked outside dbz?

Seeing Art wear ONE boxing glove was just bizarre to watch... and tapping to Royce for what looked like Royce just having position on him....

He said he was frustrated because he didn't know what to do. He was stuck and couldn't punch at all.

He claims he also didn't know they could go to the ground or headbutt or anything. He claims he thought it was a bare knuckle striking tournament.

Recent: Kimbo Vs Dada

first one that came to mind for me. i remember watching it thinking someone was going to literally die of exhaustion, and sure enough, after it was over we find out that dada 5000 nearly died.

then kimbo failed his post fight drug test and the fight was overturned to a no contest, effectively meaning dada almost died for nothing.

strange to think that just a few months after that fight, kimbo passed away.

some random ones

Luke Cummo vs Crocata in the UFC
-Luke was kicking his Crocata's ass, and Crocata was making all kinds of odd faces, and his legs looked to be two different lengths
luke-cummo-def-edilberto-crocata-tko-145-round-1-during-the-ufc-fight-picture-id102552815

-Big Ben vs Anthony Wildcard Ferguson. Ben was hurting this overmatched fat kid terribly, and the ref was no help in stopping the fight. The action went from Ben pummeling him to Ben consoling him with his hand on his shoulder, then back to ass-kicking

I'll think of more. Haven't had coffee yet

LOL

Mine has to be Kalib Starnes vs Nate Quarry at UFC 83

Kalib, the Canadian (who was the home town favourite) getting booed in Canada as he ran (litteraly) for 15 minutes to avoid getting knocked out.

It was both hilarious and mind boggling at the same time.

what are yours?

Starnes/Quarry wasn't actually a fight.

The weirdest for me is Nick Diaz v Ishi.

Tippy toe BJ vs Edgar had me perplexed the entire fight. I couldn't figure out wtf BJ was doing. I thought maybe it was some sort of a rope-a-dope type strategy but as the fight went on nothing changed and I was left scratching my head watching an unrecognizable BJ Penn gettin beat the fuck up.

Strangest fight I've ever seen was probably a boxing match. Lennox Lewis Vs Oliver McCall.

McCall dropped his guard and cried throughout most the fight but I think he was battling some personal demons and drug misuse. Plus he was being promoted by Don king iirc, who blatantly gave no shots about any of his fighters as long as he was getting the cheddar rolling in.

Saw that live and it was weird as shit. His next fight was also extremely weird where Henry Akinwande basically refused to fight. Lewis won by DQ in the 5th round because all Akinwande would do is clinch and hold on and would not fight after multiple warnings.

If you want to know how jacked boxing is, Akinwande was later promoted again to mandatory title challenger and took another payday to step aside, so he got paid twice for not fighting.

Rob Broughton vs Vinicius Queiroz is another one. Obscure, but very weird indeed. If there was any reason in the world to fix it, I'd say it was fixed. There was no reason, as they were both there to make up the numbers pretty much.

I never saw the prelim, please explain why you thought it was weird?

Was at that event and remember thinking that was a weird one. Queiroz also got popped for that fight I think??

Side note: Fought on a local show that Rob Broughton headlined. Super cool guy.

That one where the monkey choked out a frog. Saw a YT video of it.

Followed that up with perhaps the most unintentionally funniest boxers ever and one of my personal favourites, Andrew golota. His fights with riddick bowe were hilarious!

rumble dc II

not sure what the fuck rumble did.

It was strange all the way through. The Brazilian was dominating broughton because broughton didn't do anything. His punches were way off. He spent most of the second on top with not much action. broughton landed most of the strikes from the bottom. broughton's tdd was way worse than I'd ever seen it. Something was wrong. They were both gassed in the 3rd and it looked like Quieroz just gave him the choke from a dominant position. Just gave up.

Then Queiroz popped. He must've been coming off an injury or something.

Was UFC 120 Bisping/Akiyama. Queiroz popped and was immediately released.

It was a shame the bear wasn't quite UFC caliber. Seemed like a cool guy. Made the best of it, but at the top level it seemed like the clubfoot limited him a lot.

He was so close to beating De Fries while being dominated. Big Phil really didn't like that crucifix.
