The War Room

The War Room actually isnt that heavy on trolls compared to say MMA discussion here, its mostly full of bigoted scumbags of the kind MMA seems to attract strongly.

Is this the place we go to not have our posts deleted? I was told to go cry in the war room by a Mod for pointing out the new star wars show cast was 70% female. You almost cant say anything these days without someone being offended. I dont get it either because it was relative to the topic and show.

It's funny how we can talk and discuss movies and TV shows and share opinions with respect. But with politics, the line is drawn in the sand and there is rarely any middle ground. It is ok to hate Trump and ALSO admit Biden is inept and has lost his mental acuity. It is ok to support Trans rights, but also agree that biological men should not be in womens sports. It's ok to think legalized shoplifting isn't the answer to mass incarceration of certain races. Some of this is self-defeating stuff. I never remember a time where you HAD to either be liberal or conservative.

I think people tend to do it because it's easier than examining/judging/arguing distinct policies and issues, and the rise of internet news & social media has made it very easy to find a lot of support in this approach (both people and "sources" for whichever team somebody chooses to root for).

Just label any disagreement as "group X" and feel fully justified dismissing their views. It certainly makes life a LOT more simple.

I really don't think it is intended to be malicious, it's just too easy to pass up for many, many people. (Not just writing about the WR, but the US in general)

Most, but not all.

As I age, I find out just how much I don’t know, so I get less entrenched with ANY sort of belief system, or political leaning. Sometimes, time makes you understand you should question yourself and your beliefs far more often, as time will show you just how wrong you can be, and how many times you have gotten something wrong. Grow up, not old. And so on…
Tremendous post sir.
As I have gotten older my perspective does a 180 and then I get a full look at things I might've ignored.

Believing in an ideology, or that 1 side is right or wrong leaves people in limbo from the lack of self inventory.

You see it with youth today. They are so hell bent on being liberal, the side where you can have a cause, or protest something, that they lose the ability to think clearly. It is happening on college campuses right now. I pride myself on not subscribing to a “side” but will admit the absurd stuff has me leaning right. I just think many have lost simple common sense. I can be more than one set of ideas. No party should rule anyone.

You think the war room is bad check out the Underground. Every thread there turns political with nonstop complaining about black people and gays.

I enjoy discussing philosophy and politics with like minded people but the war room just feels like a filthy broken gas station toilet so I just steer clear.

Matt Berry is the best. I'll watch pretty much anything he's in.

Tell me it's not a legendary character intro.

This is why I think all politicians are bums, and politics are just another thing for people to argue about.
It's been that way since Roman times.

It’s also ok to understand that making shoplifting items that are valued under $900 a misdemeanor instead of a felony is not “legalizing” shoplifting.

If also has nothing to do with the proliferation of crime that's happened everywhere laws like that have gone into effect right?

Crime rates in general are dropping recently. There was a spike in crime shortly after Covid. How do you know Covid didn’t cause the desperation that led to that increase in crime? Covid happened and those laws went into effect at around the same time.

Could it be that certain people are posting anecdotal evidence of property crime all they can, and that certain pundits have a vested interest in convincing people that crime is rising and out of control? Yes.

Even after Covid, when the crime rate was at its highest point in years, it wasn’t anywhere near the rates seen in the 80s and 90s. And nobody changed petty theft to a misdemeanor then. So why was crime so out of control?

Look, I’m not saying it didn’t have an effect on crime. It may have contributed to the rise in crime. To what degree I don’t know, though I doubt it was much. I am just saying that you definitely don’t know.
