The War Room Bet Thread

1. Donald Trump wins general election
2. @Tropodan, for. Fawlty, against.
3. Election day.
4. If Trump wins, Fawlty wears av of Tropodan's choosing. Freeroll.
5. From election day to inauguration day.

Deal, and sorry for not offering the same if Hillary wins, but I had her picked 4 years ago, and on this forum I'm on the record over 2 years ago.

I'll tell you what though, if she doesn't start a war within her first term you can pick my av lol. only for the same time period you would have to wear your av though.

If I remember, I was doing some excessive shit talking at the time that made a freeroll bet seem appropriate. lol

I think we can both be confident she's going to start a war w/Syria or Djibouti or Eritrea or some other shit hole...

I have a bet going (not acceptable for this thread) with some nutter who thinks she's going to attack Iran.

It's weird to me because I always assume that when people post crazy partisan shit like that that they know it's not really accurate. Like, OK, you don't want her to win so you say she's a liar, murderer, corrupt, bloodthirsty war monger--whatever. But deep down, you know that's just a game, right? Certainly, most of the people who spread that shit do. If Hannity saw Clinton at a party in private, he'd give a big hug and say, "sorry for all the shit I'm saying, but you know how it is--Trump's tax cuts alone are worth like a million bucks a year to me," and she'd smile and say, "don't worry about it. I know. You'll live without that cut, though."

I am disappoint with this thread. I thought we were going to get some activity off the bat. Surely somebody had a wager. @HendoRuaGOAT, do you just have a few currently pending that you don't care to make on at this time?

My only bet I have going is with jack, and I already lost, but the time frame hasn't elapsed yet. It had to do with Clinton's approval rating dipping to a certain point, and whether bernie would win the nomination at the convention if it did. 2 month sig bet.

The only other bet I offered jack(he refused)was a poll for who the forum would vote most dishonest, and the loser would leave, but I believe that bet is against the thread rules, though I am still game.

It's a good thread though. It will keep disputes over this to a minimum, and allow easy access for people to remember their bets.

Somebody already did a bet with Thuriaz on who was going to win the election for stakes that render any I'd be interested in moot, so he's off. But if any other (established) Trump suppoters fancy their luck, I'd be happy to run an av or sig bet with them.

Don't you enjoy having an arch nemesis however in the War Room? It's weird thinking how much time has passed while using this place. A lot of the same people still around too. Didn't know if a forum would still stay relevant this late. For as simplified as this medium is, it's still as great to use as when I started it.

The lack of Trump supporters willing to put their avs where their mouths are is actually hope that a seed of rationality may have survived this winter of the mind...

Hmmm... no specific poster comes to min.... @Space cough @Space

Or it's like the polls where there are a majority of silent Trump supporters. Maybe there are tons of Trump supporters who really want to make av and sig bets but they are worried about absolutely nothing other than they will lose... oh wait, that was your point.

It gives it spice, I'll give you that, but I wish this place was more a concensus building platform of serious debate.

I will wish in one hand and shit in the other, and see which one gets full furst though.:D

I mean, I would think it'd be impossible to reach consensus here. People grow up and have completely different life experiences to get them where they stand politically. Without the diversity, it would be fairly boring. Possibly just a ton of threads where the op has 1000 likes with no replies afterward. I do think serious debate does occur here. It just can get derailed quickly if there is a clear focus on the matter being debated and not being swayed into other issues before reaching some type of climax with the first matter.

Also, don't shit in your hand though. I've never heard that saying before but I totally can hear Bernie saying it though.

My ideal for this place would be for when disputes got heated, or when people just wanted to make their case without the trolling and ploys, would be a way to create a special thread, where the rules of a debate were followed. Where one poster would get to make a point, support it with sources, or editorial, and the other poster would be allowed a counter argument. The original poster gets closing arguments, and the visa versa.

I don't know how practical it would be, but if it could work, it would make clear who the intellectual puddles vs intellectual oceans were.

I actually had a plan for this exact thing but haven't had the time to put it together yet. Not sure if it would work but I was planning to try it probably the start of next year. The economist does something like it each month
http://debates.economist.com/
I think it would encourage better debate in the long run but I'm unsure it really would work. The thing with those formats is the speakers usually are experts in the field or knowledgeable in debating at the very least. I'm not sure if one with sherdog would just turn into a train wreck. I mean, I do know there are posters on here that are well qualified in their respective fields but to find two for a specific topic and then have both of them want to do it, pick a specific side, and be able to handle the format correctly could be a problem. I think we will find out in time though. I have hope for it still once I'm done studying this year.

I'd like to express my support for this tread. I don't really post enough to have the kind of relationship that seems to foster the high-stakes kind of forum bet, but sig bets and such can potentially introduce a sliver of sportsmanship into a forum which usually tends more towards the purely hostile. Having a way to make trash-talkers put their money where their mouth is also probably statisfying to many.

That said, I have the feeling that the timing of the lauch might have something to do with the slightly slow start. The odds in the general election are so lopsided now, even with them slightly tightening polls of this week. Maybe it will pick up a little if the race tightens somewhat towards election day like it often has done historically?

Agreed, we will get to a fever pitch as the debates close in, and the campaigning kicks into high gear. Polls will close as long as Trump is capable of not being controversial for 2 months, kind of a big if at this point however, but if polling does close we will see betting pick up.

I will take a bet with anyone who wants it, that 3rd party candidates combined will take 10% minimum in the general, for the first time since Perot.

Funny how the Clintons bring out the 3rd party vote in this country.

Yea I suppose the election isn't something bet worthy at this point. I'd think people would find other things to wager from though. You even could do electoral votes margin or who wins a state.

Really wish this was made during the primaries. There were tons of things to do it with then

Elections are sucking all the oxygen out the news cycle right now, nothing else can breathe long enough to sustain itself.

Well accept for race/sjw, but I don't know how you would bet on that, maybe average estrogen level for a SJW, or when the south will actually rise again, over/under.
