It's the craziest book I ever read. I know there's a Netflix movie about it, but I havent seen it and only covers the first chapter of the book.

It's about scientists miscalculating the time that the sun is going to explode, then they found out and the planet is split into two factions:

The "Leavers" and the "Movers"

The "Leavers" have a few hundred years to build giant spaceships designed to carry the planet's population and go find another home in space.

The "Movers" are people who want to "move" the entire planet by building giant thrusters and moving the entire planet out into space, before the sun explodes and destroys the solar sytem.

The "Movers" won. They built tens of thousands of giant rockets, much larger than Mount Everest and positioned it around the globe.

Then there's a war between the two factions.

Then a moving planet the size of the moon came over the Earth and its gravitational pull forced the ocean to go up like a giant mountain. A guy who was depressed and suicical was on a boat when it happened, and he decided to "swim" up the ocean mountain to go up to the planet.

When he was at the top of the water, the moving planet said "hi."

I am not high enough for this thread.

Wouldn't moving the planet to a new star

A) destroy the planet in the process of accelerating it to light speed.

B) freeze and destroy the planet as it moves away from the sun

C) take many years at light speed to get to a habitable range around a suitable star

D) destroy the planet again when attempting to decelerate it from light speed into a stable orbit?

The movie is hard sci fi. It's got answers to every problem. I think it said it'd take a million years for humanity to get to its destination. Meanwhile, everyone lives underground. This is already far into the future, where their technology has progressed much farther than ours currently.

The planet said it was just cruising along and noticed that the Earth was in distress and decided to stop and see what the hubbub was all about . Soon as it came close, it absorbed all our information and the history of our planet.

The planet explained to the man that unlike our Earth, they evolved INSIDE of their planet. The planet's core was empty in the middle and for a billion years, they evolved inside, thinking that the universe was solid rock and that their "bubble" was all there is to life.

They had their own "war" inside made up of people who were content living inside the bubble, and the other half of the population who wanted to start digging outward to see if there were other "bubbles" in the universe.

Eventually, after a billion years of technological progress and wars, they managed to dig themselve out into the universe and found out they were living inside a rock all this time.

This reminds me about my issue with a Dyson sphere.
Wouldn't it eliminate all sunrays reaching the planet ?

Where are you getting the materials to fully encase a star when the star has 99% of the mass of a solar system?

If the theory of relativity holds true than all that karadaschev shit and 99% of sci fi concepts are impossible/impractical due to the limitations of physics
