The UFC should come up with a "TOP 10" list, here's why:

The UFC should create a Top 10 List for each division, without actually ranking the 1st, 2nd, 3rd... etc.

Advantages:

1. There will be something tangible for young prospects to work towards. Also gives credits to good fighters that are not good enough for a title shot.

2. It will be far less controversial than a list that actually ranks fighters one by one.

3. Easier to hype fights between 2 top 10 fighters.

So long as MMA is a PPV business, I can't imagine Zuffa adopting a system that exacerbates the fan-rage when a contender gets leap-frogged by a bigger draw; and so long as MMA is a PPV business...contenders will be leap-frogged by bigger draws.

Yeah, but then it's like college football, it's all some kind of weird jumble of numbers where everyone bitches about where this guy is ranked vs. that guy. UFC is more like pro wrestling than anyone knows, they're going to book the exciting matchups that they think fans want to see. Hendrix is getting screwed over so Diaz and GSP can settle their bad blood. Sonnen doesn't deserve a shot, but he can shit talk his way into it. That's just a sign of the times.

Well put.

I agree with the TS, but this is the reason why. The UFC wouldn't be able to matchmake the way they do now.

Oh don't get me wrong, I don't disagree with internal rankings at all. It's just, before we can even hope for that to happen, imo, we'd need to abolish the PPV model.

Advantages:

1. True

2. I don't really agree with this. I get your point, but I think the UFC is better off NOT ranking because then they can just wipe their hands clean.

3. They already do this.

So basically, its less liability of the UFC to not rank, and they already have the advantages of using 3rd party ranking systems.

wrong.
It will piss off anyone that is good but didn't make the top 10.
It will have more controversy than help.
AND why should they? Most sites have a top 10. UFC does not say yes or no to them, and refer to them when they want to hype someone ("He is in x.com top 10 list").
