Wow you can't win. Be active and critiqued for it.

Burns wants to get paid and get a shot. I don't think this loss really hurts him because of the injury.
It absolutely hurts him. He had a case to make to be next in line.

now obviously Belal is ahead of him.

burns might never get a crack at the title again. That championship provision of giving fighters ppv points is a life-changer.

you’re talking about going from 100k per fight to potentially a million per fight… or more.

It’s a business at the end of the day

I doubt he gets the next title shot if he doesn't take the fight, but if he wins it his almost gtd the next the shot.

I don't think the short turn around was the issue either. It is clear injury hindered his performance and that can happen anytime.

Correct me if I'm wrong but wasn't Gilbert the one calling out belal on Twitter a few weeks ago? There were threads on sherdog about the tweets at that time

This is Burns 3rd fight in 2023, and we're only at MAY!

Burns 4th fight since April 2022, which was against Khamzat.
The UFC threw him in there as a sacrificial lamb. Burns made the most outta it.

Now, after solid wins against Magny and Masvidal, Burns is finally a household name and the UFC chooses to throw him in there with a short notice fight, just about 30 days after his most recent fight.

Just cutting weight twice in 30 days is crazy, let alone fighting 2 top UFC guys along with it in those 30 days.

I'm not surprised that Burns is injured in there. There's only so much that the human body can accomplish, especially under USADA.

Now instead of taking his fan-favorite stardom into a UFC championship fight, Burns is getting booed by the crowd (for being unable to perform injured), and gets beat by Belal Muhammad.

I guess Belal fighting for the title in Abu Dhabi means more money for the UFC
How dare the UFC keep paying a guy for the job he wants to do.

Trying to fast track someone to the title is doing them dirty?

They did Masdival dirty by scheduling his fight with Burns. All Burns had to do was beat Belal and he would've punched his ticket to his 2nd chance at gold.

Instead belal stole his thunder.

Giblert ain’t champ material
I agree.

Your striking is overrated and you lack the courage to be more aggressive, seeming afraid to take punches.

It was frustrating to see him passively watching Belal strike him and score for 5 rounds...

Wtf, no one is forcing him to fight. What a weird fucking take.

Oh no, someone who wants to show up to work more than once a year. Call the police!

Shit happens. We need activity like this. There’s no reason fighters need to sit out 95% of the year and then have the audacity to say they don’t make enough and only want title fights.

He's a good gatekeeper. He's never going to be champion. He wasn't sacrificed to Khamzat just like he accepted these 3 fights in a row. He's making good money on fighting up and coming people while he is on the way out, he's 36. I think he's catching cheques and the UFC is transfering some of his status onto other guys. Which is how this game works.

How did the UFC do him dirty?
They gave him two big names.

I think OP is trying to give Burns an unfair out. Dana literally said Burns would be the back-up for Leon/Colby which means he would have gotten the winner without needing to fight Belal. Burns got injured during the fight because of Belal. I'm sick and tired of these excuses because your favorite fighter loss and the ridiculous hate on Belal. OP: if the roles were reversed would there be this much outrage in support of Belal? Burns failed Burns in this fight. Got outskilled by the better fighter. Done

Fighters used to fight 3x in a year and it was a normal year, average amount of activity. Now people are complaining? These divisions would move quicker if everyone else kept fighting at WW.

If every division made the #1 contenders who lost their title shot go through what Burns did then the UFC would be in a better place. Instead it's common to see the #1 guy sit out for a year or win an easy fight and wait.

Lol fuck burns. I thought it was silly everyone thought he deserved anything more than colby (lmao)

Belal however actually does/did deserve it more than colby. Only him, and I'm glad he proved it.

this his 3rd fight in 6 months

I'm pretty sure Burns accepted the fight. Not sure how UFC did him dirty if he's the one who accepted.

This. It’s not like ufc kept him sidelines for a year and then he had to accept the only fight they offered him as money was getting scarce

Burns took a fight against an opponent where a win likely gave him another title shot. I don’t see how that’s throwing him to the wolves

I don't think he planned on booking much more fights this year after Belal. We probably won't see him in 2023 again either.
I believe we will definately see him again and soonish. Probably in september october.

He'll probably fight geoff neal
