This is Burns 3rd fight in 2023, and we're only at MAY!

Burns 4th fight since April 2022, which was against Khamzat.
The UFC threw him in there as a sacrificial lamb. Burns made the most outta it.

Now, after solid wins against Magny and Masvidal, Burns is finally a household name and the UFC chooses to throw him in there with a short notice fight, just about 30 days after his most recent fight.

Just cutting weight twice in 30 days is crazy, let alone fighting 2 top UFC guys along with it in those 30 days.

I'm not surprised that Burns is injured in there. There's only so much that the human body can accomplish, especially under USADA.

Now instead of taking his fan-favorite stardom into a UFC championship fight, Burns is getting booed by the crowd (for being unable to perform injured), and gets beat by Belal Muhammad.

I guess Belal fighting for the title in Abu Dhabi means more money for the UFC

Fully support this thread. I don’t know why Gilbert would take the fight but the UFC shouldn’t have offered it to him anyways.
Plenty of fighters have gone on record stating that you can't really say 'No' to the UFC without facing consequences

Kinda the norm in dealing with narcissistic figures, like Dana. Dude holds serious grudges

This was his only real path to a title shot this year. Nobody is forcing him to fight on short notice.

Burns took the fight, no one twisted his arm. He's a grown man. Despite losing, he got an extra payday in a short of amount of time. He will be rewarded in the future for stepping up.

Gilbert choice to fight. If he won you wouldn't have created this thread. Gilbert is grown adult. Fighters use to fight twice in one night, NFL players play every Sunday for 18 weeks, wrestlers cut weight more than twice in a month.

Let’s blame USADA.
Pulsing exemptions for all!!

Burns said it himself that HE asked to fight on this card, how is the UFC doing him dirty on that?
Also while he took this fight on short notice, he didn't stop training after the Jorge fight and barely took damage in his last two. He was in way better shape compared to Belal who hasn't been in camp since October and just came off Ramadan.
If anything the UFC have been doing Belal dirty considering he's never had a chance to fight for the belt and is on the second longest winning streak in the division.

Anyways props to both men for taking this fight on short notice, but no one was forced to do anything here.
To add on, the UFC promised Burns the backup spot for Leon/Colby and usually that means they're getting the next shot. Burns could have waited, however he wanted to stay active and unfortunately that doesn't always go your way so hopefully he got compensated well for saving this card.

Bruns probably wants to reire early. His stock is hot so he can get as much as he can right now. He knows it. If you feel shocked you are just a fool who doesn't understand simple economics.
