People say that the UFC shouldn't bring a Featherweight division into the company because there isn't enough talent.
Are you kidding me? That's the best reason to bring Cyborg and a FW division into the UFC.
Why is this? Because you start a FW division into the UFC and have Cyborg defend her former Invicta title crowning Cyborg the first UFC FW champ and have her have her first UFC fight at 145lbs. be her first title defense of the FW belt. Just like Ronda, you have will have a dominate champ and a bunch of cans that you hype up as legit challengers. You can write the story itself! It's better than the belt changing hands every other fight.
The point is for Cyborg to crush cans and dominate, building a division. Not fight legitimate competition. It worked for Rousey and the womens BW division.
You don't want a bunch of top talent vs. Cyborg (hardcore fans do, but casuals will believe the hype). You want a bunch of fighters that you can be hyped as threatening to Cyborg when in reality they aren't much of a threat so that you can build Cyborg up.
This is just like the Ronda situation. Ronda who was a talented judo practitioner (Cyborg being a striker) vs. a bunch of no name soccer moms. Ronda rose to the top and 'dominated' all of these women. It was a great story line for the UFC and brought the UFC to heights it hadn't known before with their Bantamweight champ being in major Hollywood blockbuster movies, talkshows, and all over tv. Eventually more talent rose to the top and toppled Ronda. But she left her mark on history and brought women's MMA into the public. Many of my friends who come to watch UFC fights still only really care about the women's fights and if Ronda's fighting. She is much like Lesnar, a very polarizing figure whom people watch because they really want to see them win or lose.
They can do the same thing with Cyborg. Hype up all of her opponents like they realistically have a chance and then watch this monster, scary, Brazilian just crush her opponents. And the general public loves KO/TKO's more than subs.
Just like how the UFC built up Cain and they want to build up Paige and Sage. The UFC has people they want to keep winning because they believe they have that 'it' factor that sells tickets.
Because the UFC has never had a women's FW division now is the time to strike when it's hot. You can bring Cristiane Cyborg and the rest of the Invicta women and start all over again with the Ronda game plan. And you can make millions of dollars doing it. Cyborg will dominate them and everyone will love it until either Cyborg gets old and starts losing or the FW division develops talent that beats her. With a dominate champ and opponents that she can crush in a new division this is the PERFECT time to bring Cyborg and the FW division into the UFC. Either way, it's a win-win for the UFC.
Hell, if they bring Cyborg over as FW champ and she defends her belt you can have her and the BW women's champ do catchweights fights or fights at their weight, just like Conor was doing with LW and FW titles.
