About a week a go I started a thread about the fact that anytime you tie "pro" to sports it becomes entertainment. Most people smugly answered that this is obvious. If they knew it was obvious why ae they now so outraged and surprised about the Conor -Diaz rematch? Entertainment over sport means it;s all bout money- not purity of sport. This isn't going to get any better for the purity. The UFC is in business to make as much money as possible even at the expense if the integrity of the sport. It's not even a title match and they're talking about making i the main event!

It might surprise you that pro wrestling started out as legit sport. the promoters changed it to a work after 20 or 30 years when they discovered they could draw bigger audiences to worked fights than shoot fights. The pendulum just swung back again when the UFC started and for about 23 years they've been having legitimate fights for the most part but soon just like pro wrestling promoters before them, they will discover there is more money in storylines, emphasizing promos, and having fights with more and more action even if it means starting to work fights. The UFC is nothing more than the pro wrestling if this century.

It's just an extension of the WWE. Think about it, all the MMA guys that have gone over to the WWE and then your have your WWE guys coming over, ahem, Brock. Brock was gifted a title shot because he was a champ in the WWE. Too bad for all of us real sports fans, it's all about the money.

I'd expect more from a thread posted by someone with a 2005 join date. " For about 23 years they've been having legitimate fights for the most part". The sport wasn't even five years old when they started having silly matches. Even though he is a legend in the sport now, Sakuraba only joined the UFC to get some publicity and free advertising for Kingdom Pro Wrestling League. He falsified his weight so he could enter the HW tourney. There are a number of random mismatches in the early years of PRIDE as well. Let's not pretend MMA was legit since 1993 and only became silly now.

Until UFC starts to script fights it has little to nothing to do with pro wrestling/WWE. Retarded thread.

"for the most part"...

While I generally agree with the OP, title and overall sentiment of the thread,

What? Who? Name one, please.
Rampage, Rousey, Shamrock, Severn, c'mon man do I have to spell it out for you? Plus you forgot the vice versa, Brock, C.M. Punk, Batista, etc.

Have you followed combat sports over the past 100+ years? It's always been this way.

Always love it when someone tries to make this horrendously stupid claim.

Talk about being dramatic.

Quick google search shows that pro wrestling was proven "predetermined" as far back as 1880, and lost popularity in the late 19teens due to it become well known it was "fake".
This is not saying that it was all fake back then, just that OP is not telling the whole truth.

Plus I don't think that people that throw around the word "entertainment" as a negative to MMA being a sport, have any idea of what sport actually means

sport
spôrt/
noun
noun: sport; plural noun: sports
1
.
an activity involving physical exertion and skill in which an individual or team competes against another or others for entertainment.

Rampage, Rousey, Shamrock, Severn,
Shamrock was the only one that was the least bit regular and that was a LONG time ago in relate to mma being around. Also, Rousey was on ONE show for like TWO minutes. You cannot be serious with that shit, for real though ///

people talking about it as though ufc has not been doing this already for years

TS's hangup seems to be with the word "pro". "pro"wrestling is the only one I can think of that make a sport fake by adding the prefix. Pro football, Pro baseball, Pro soccer. All of these are common phrases.
