Both are debated. They get the majority of votes, but neither is unanimously number one. In the case of Jordan, some say Lebron is better. In the case of Gretzky, some say Lemieux or Orr or Howe is better. The debates are easy to confirm, just Google.

Wayne Gretzky is the GOAT hockey player. He has no competition, and nobody debates it. He is absolutely peerless with his stats.

The majority have Gretzky as number one, but some put Lemieux ahead of him (better points per game until he got sick), some put Orr ahead of him (completely changed the game in the way no one had done before or since), some put Howe ahead of him (scored a lot of goals in a time when goals per game were much lower, and was physically very strong and tough, didn't need someone like Semenko to protect him).
