Being a triathlete means you are in good shape. Two of my sisters, my brother, a couple of my cousins, and my dad up until a few years ago competed. My two daughters do those tough mudder things. As well as 100,000's of thousands of people around the world. I am not sure why posters here equate competing in such an event has ANYTHING AT ALL to do with a pro fighters shape and conditioning, but it doesn't.

The Diaz bros don't only do triathlons, they are pretty good at them too, and their cardio in MMA is second to none. You are just being dishonest here IMO. GTFO.

Your siblings are probably in better shape than off season johnny hendricks

Competing in those events would improve a person's shape and conditioning regardless of which sport they play.

The only myth here is that Nate was actually on a yacht in Cabo and not training for a triathlon.

but Nate said he wasn't in training for a triathlon he was relaxing on a beach.

doesn't matter the sport, having good cardio is always a plus

pretty good is an understatement, Nick Diaz finished in 1st place in a few of the triathlons he competed in

It's not a fucking myth. It's just a cardio bonus when it comes into starting a camp for a fight. No more, no less.

This I did not know, I knew they were competitive but not to this extent. Thanks for pointing it out, that's a huge accomplishment, even more so because as TS pointed out, a shitload of people participate in those...

I rather be in some sort of triathlon shape, than in watching Football on a Sunday in my underwear kind of shape.

That is my point. A lot of kids think this is such a big deal in regards to fighting. But it isn't. The Diaz brothers of course have some of the best cardio ever in MMA. AND they do triathlons. But one does not equal the other. I am not ripping on Nate. I am just tired of seeing how a person that does a triathlon is in great MMA shape. I mean, I have been reading that for years now!

That and the fact that they're going to be in the gym regardless. Nate said it himself, outside of fighting, there isn't much else he does.
“On my worst day, I’ll train for two hours,” he said. “I don’t have too many hobbies. I’m always working, always training. When I’m eating junk food and partying or whatever you want to call it, I’ll wake up, and I’ll train the next day. It’s been like that since I started. I think I train harder than the hardest workers in the off-season.”

Well you can look at it this way is he better with it or without ? My first guess is it helps something somewhere

Lol OP probably struggles to get off the couch daily. Lol at "good shape. You have to be in great shape. Also lol at tough mudders.

Having developed cardio respiratory endurance is going to benefit a fighter, regardless of the source.

You're pretty retarded dude, I don't know how else to tell you. For boxing, or MMA, the best way to train cardio is running, cycling, and swimming. You add in some jumping rope and you got legs for days. Ever wonder why every boxer in the history of boxing runs? Add in some jiu jitsu and you got the Diaz bros.

Oh alright, sorry for trying to rip you a new one, I see where you come from now. True that it won't do much for you aside cardio, but it's a great addition to any conditioning program, and in the case of the Diaz brothers, it makes them almost impossible to outlast in an MMA fight.
