Can we please stop debating who is the GOAT or best ever mixed martial artist. It doesn’t make any sense. No one will EVER be the official GOAT of mixed martial artist. The MMA community will never come to consensus as to what criteria should be used to compare fighters, let alone determine the weight of each criteria and how the fighters stack up against each other. All that is left is a gigantic pile of bullshit over a multi-layered subjective topic that means sweet fuck all.
For example, I could come up with a logical argument for Royce Gracie being the greatest ever based on legacy, effect on MMA technique, ability compared to the fighters at the time, earnings compared to fighters at the time, percent of fan base that were a fan of him at the time, his size compared to those he fought in his prime (like what is “Prime” isn’t another load of garbage) etc. Annnnd… it would mean nothing.
My favorite fighter of all time is GSP and he has one of the strongest arguments for GOAT. But so the fuck what. At best, I would simply be giving my respect to a fighter I admire. That’s it. Nobody is going to give him a trophy because I think he is the best. He won’t be called GOAT on his tombstone and it won’t be mentioned in the history books. In a couple of decades, people will be talking about a completely different bunch of fighters being the GOAT and it will mean just as little then as it does now.
For the record, I have no problem with people saying that a particular fighter is the GOAT as a compliment to a fighter they admire. Even better is people using it as a joke as it pisses idiots off to no end and the entire discussion deserves to be mocked mercilessly. Its sad that people take this topic seriously though.
P.S. Conor is GOAT. He has made the most money in the shortest amount of time and that is why people fight professionally. So the cheese is all that matters. Suck it.
