Ya gotta admit though, when GSP exited it made WW a hell of a lot more exciting.

I don't mean that in a "GSP fought boring" kind of way. I just mean watching really, really good top contenders each clawing their way through each other for that belt. Kind of was the same at MW when Anderson lost, but I really loved watching Anderson do his invincible thing though, too.

I agree and I did not mean GSP. While Georges did not look good against Hendricks I knew he will win a close decision. He went at the top and made the division more interesting.

Jones, while still basically undefeated, made the division less interesting due to his issues.

Werdum, Stipe and Reem are unlikely to be long reining champs. While it can be seen as a good thing, there are no new contenders and we will end up with pointless trilogies and instant rematches in a few fights.

Ronda got beat by Holly who can be defeated by Tate or Zingano. The two of them will lose to Ronda most of the times; and I don't see Ronda being a fighter for long. Cyborg will probably never make 135 lbs while being the most dangerous fighter.

Conor had a great run at FW but went to the division he has no business to be in, at least not without a long preparation period. Now his mental games and a lack of ground game have been exposed. All he had to do was beat undersized Edgar to be in MMA history books. While that is not guaranteed, his reach and abilities at 145 lbs could have made it possible.

Weidman was not a huge deal because I never believed in his cardio against a fighter who can pressure him. I think Rockhold is at least as good and less injury prone.

Don't want to be "that guy" that liked it more when there was less events, but there are certain things I miss about it.

Biggest thing of all, was looking forward to fight night. When it only came once a month, it was a big deal. My buddy and I would hang out every week and we'd be like "Two weeks to fight night!" or "FIghts are next week" or "Three days until the fights!"

Since they didn't come around as often, I was able to indulge in the ancillary programming more. I watched all the countdown shows. All the Primetimes. All the Weigh Ins. I even watched the pre-fight press conferences, and the post-fight press conferences. And all the prelim fights.

Now?

I might download the card and watch the top 2-3 fights. Read up about the rest of the results. That's it.

Having more MMA in my life has made me feel like less of an MMA fan. Who'da thunk?

Nice post. You make some great points and I agree completely. It used to feel more special and just, more of an event. Great point about with having less events, you get to look at all the ancillary programming and interviews and everything else. Are you somebody's alt acct?

I don't own any t shirts but when there is a weekend without an event I feel a void. I can't deny my life is measurably more pleasurable with fighting in it. :p

Thanks. Yeah after I made that post I realized I didn't even go into card quality. That's just how much the state of MMA has changed. It's growing, and yes, I know that's a good thing. But it has also become less special along the way. I'm just a nostalgic kind of guy.

And no, not an alt. Like I mentioned in my first posts here. I'm a longtime lurker. Probably since 2010 but never bothered making an account before now. I've been around though.

I think anybody posting on Sherdog is an automatic check somewhere between 8-10.

I agree with pretty much all this. I do think you're overestimating Conor's chance against Frankie. That's a nightmare matchup for him, man. But he does have size, reach and power advantage, so he would have a chance. I just think it's not much of one, lol.

Agree with the Reem, Stipe, Werdum.....and Ronda, Holly, and Tate trilogies. They all pretty much cancel each other out. But a clear, head above them all type of champ will appear eventually. They always do.

And imo both Weidman and Rockhold are just so damn bland I can't get too invested in them. I just don't give a crap about either of them, personally. They're basically interchangeable placeholders until a real dominant champ appears. That's just my take on those 2 though, I know they both have their fans and followers.

Years ago 9.5, dropped over time to 7 and now currently an 8.

Might be heading down, depends how things go. Annoying tingz.
