The Soccer Kick

Are you aware of how many people have died in boxing?

I am.

However I'm not here to get sidetracked into a different discussion. Just stating why I'm not in favour of allowing stomps and soccer kicks.

They look cool but yeah, too brutal for a mainstream audience.

I think as fans we are getting a little more sensitive to the health of the fighters as we learn more about concussions, the brain and seeing how guys from PRIDE are ending up.

12-6 elbows however, I think we could probably get those legalized.

I would say the Browne v Barnett elbpws to the temple are as likely/more likely to cause major concussive damage and a death in the sport than soccer kicks. Soccer kicks rarely land flush, and if one does land flush that is usually it. Look at the first fight in the highlight video, that guy shooting for the double goes in and out of consciousness and takes like 10 of those elbows to the temple. I don't like those. Soccer kicks end fights quick, and you only rarely get one that lands as clean as the one that nailed Huerta.

Good job collecting the HLs, but it is a move I never liked even in the Pride and early UFC days.

Just guessing here, but I would venture that Browne elbows would cause more spinal and brainstem injuries, soccer kicks more concussion type injuries...

This is from a old post.
Boxing Deaths from 1998 until 2006 MMA Death Rates from 1998-2006
1998 = 2 Deaths in the ring 1998 = 1 Death in the ring
1999 = 6 Deaths in the ring 1999 = 0 Deaths in the ring
2000 = 10 Deaths in the ring 2000 = 0 Deaths in the ring
2001 = 12 Deaths in the ring 2001 = 0 Deaths in the ring
2002 = 10 Deaths in the ring 2002 = 0 Deaths in the ring
2003 = 10 Deaths in the ring 2003 = 0 Deaths in the ring
2004 = 9 Deaths in the ring 2004 = 0 Deaths in the ring
2005 = 7 Deaths in the ring 2005 = 0 Deaths in the ring
2006 = 4 Deaths in the Ring 2006 = 0 Deaths in the ring

Can you imagine the indignation someone like Bill O'Reilly would whip up if there was a serious injury or death from a soccer kick in the UFC? It's seriously not worth the risk.

Being that his parent company has invested heavily in the sport, I doubt he'd say a damn thing.

So you don't like soccer kicks because you worry about what Bill O'Reilly types would say if someone got hurt badly? This is no way to live.

I'd rather get soccer kicked than plum kneed anyways. Those fucking things disfigure faces and rock brains, but they are already here so people just accept them.

Great video. I think people have to realize we are 15 years past the point where we had to worry about John McCain complaining about MMA. Its an accepted part of society now.

There's nothing to worry about because it's a bridge we'll never have to cross, they'll never be legalised in the one organisation that counts for the most.

Knew you would be from England when I heard that tune :cool:

Creeper was big. Zinc needs to come back to the DnB scene

Mate, I'm going to see Shy FX next month in Plymouth, cannot wait.
