His style just requires too much energy. Even a fighter with good cardio, if they tried to fight like Aldo would gas out. When he's on offensive he throws everything he has into each punch, his technique is great overall but sometimes he throws very long wild punches that require him to extend himself and exert a lot of energy. Even on defense, his head movement is good but it is not efficient, more efficient defenders will see punches coming and can slip them more subtly by also being at the right distance. Aldo on the other hand tends to anticipate his opponent's strikes and slips them with very exaggerated and explosive turning of his upper body. Seriously if you don't know how exhausting this is, try to do a defensive drill with a partner and try to slip punches like Aldo does, see how long you last.

He’s looked off since joining the ufc. Gassed out against a busted up Hominick was particularly bad.

The day before he was almost at the hospital for illness and had to leave the Champions seminar the UFC put on. Aldo has never had a nutritionist until the Moraes fight. He never cut weight intelligently.

It's a combination of a few things, he isn't as fast as he used to be and neither are his reactions, he never had the best gas tank but he could beat guys up enough that they weren't able to punish him when he took a round off to recover.

Now with his athletic decline, as well as just the new breed of fighters being better, he's not able to outclass guys early in the fight and they're able to punish him when he gets tired.

I don't think it's his style really at all, he barely has any footwork. He's either plodding or a statue most of the time...well old Aldo.

He used to be much more mobile, his pivots and footwork were amazing up until the Frankie rematch, since then he just stands in front of guys and brawls really.

Aldo spend lot of energy with body movments in first rounds. They are too explosive. He is faster then oponents in first rounds because that but in championchip rounds he is in trouble if oponent are not too beaten. Whole carier they have that style.

Aldo is a bum. He could win only with low kicks not engaging in real fight. After he become unable to kick low kicks he is nothing special.

The real reason he is tired is because this is now the USADA era. He used to be able to fight 5 rounds easily.
That's not true. Aldo often gassed in the championship rounds. Watch Hominick and Lamas bouts.

Using footwork is better because you can control your breathing better than when you are in the pocket and using a lot of upper body movement to slip punches. If you fight like a true Thai you can be stationary and just block/check most strikes and that is less exhausting but Aldo has a hybrid MT/boxing style where he throws super hard punches and kicks and on defense he behaves more like a boxer but without the footwork.

Imagine if Sage Northcutt became Champion when he got into the UFC and fought nothing but killers in 5 round fights for 15 years straight.

Only Aldo can do that.

Fuck off with this shit.

If you idiots are going to play the USADA card, at least get your facts straight.

Aldo gassed in several five round fights pre-USADA, most notably against Hominick and Lamas where he got held to down for entire rounds and was clearly just trying to survive to the closing bell. He also slowed down in the championship rounds of his first fight against Edgar.

He had arguably his best career performance post-USADA in the rematch against Edgar where he dominated Edgar for all five rounds and never dropped his pace.

He gassed against Yan because he has no business fighting at 135, and the massive body shots that he took after that botched TD in the first round didn't help either.

Aldo is 33.

A lot of UFC fighters have had their best performances at older ages than that.

Anderson Silva, Daniel Cormier. Romero wasn't even in the UFC until he was 36.
Romero is a freak, but even Silva and DC if you watch them when they were younger in their 20s they actually were more athletic than they were later when they became more famous. It's just their styles weren't as reliant on being explosive, Silva was more about timing people and DC has a grinding wrestling style. Aldo is all about being explosive, it's pretty much the worst style their is for longevity. Look at the records for explosive athletes like sprinters and jumpers. They all are pretty much recording their best times in their 20s and begin to already decline in the late 20s
