When you have a big fight in a matter of days that can result in you earning hundreds of thousands, wouldn't you do everything to avoid unnecessary confrontations? What would Khabib earn from fighting with Conor in the garage ?

He was trying to get the event cancelled, and himself suspended in the process.

After losing Tony, and then Khabib (and the others), there's no way this PPV goes on. So he was hoping there'd be no title fight and therefore no new champion. While at the same time after he's suspended Conor can go back to the "They're all scared, they don't want me to fight!" excuse to never defend a belt.
