There is nothing wrong with building a guy up slowly. That's exactly what they did with Jones, and look how well that worked out. The problem Conor is having now is that he had too much success too soon, and he's not as developed as a fighter as people thought he was. He blasted Aldo and that was awesome. But the guy still has almost no ground game to speak of, and now because of his success he MUST fight big name fighters, that have been in the sport a long time and are more developed martial artists than he is.

Ideally he goes back to fighting mid-tier guys and works on plugging the holes in his game. That takes years to do. But he can't do that. He can't go backwards.

What will happen now is the guy most likely loses his next 2 or 3 fights in a row, and gets washed out. And fans will say he was a flash in the pan who was never that good. But he IS good, he just hasn't had the time others have to develop properly. He's a victim of his own success.

UFC gave him 5 exact matchups for his 1st 5 fights.

No wrestlers. No grapplers.

As soon as Jones got the title, he fought four former champions in a row (and that's not including Rua). That's not "slowly."

Conor had six UFC fights before fighting for the title, and he won all of his matches in dominating fashion. Why are you blaming the UFC for Conor (already a large FW) wanting to fight up a weight class?

Na Conor practically demanded it. Anyway on paper RDA was a far tougher fight than Diaz

LOL @ "Fed him to the wolves". hahahahahaha

No, the problem is that Conor thought that touchbutt-fu was awesome, and since he slept Aldo in 13s, he really thought touchbutt-fu was amazing. So when he started to use spinshit and capoeira garbage, he tired himself out like a fool.

Not a single effective kick.

Yeah, who did he fight before he got the title? They specifically talked about bringing him up slowly at the time. He was fighting the Bonners and Matyushenko's of the world. And if you'll remember, he got that title fight because the original opponent fell out due to injury.

His fans thought he stood a chance against Jones. Diaz was a lock for all of them. Now go back and watch what RDA did to Diaz.

those kicks are so slow and unathletic

completely telegraphed, diaz saw them coming a mile away

A terrible clueless comparison, Bones wasn't even a pro fighter for a half a year and had 6 pro fights when he debuted in the UFC.

He had 14 total fights and was in the UFC 3 years when he got his title shot as an injury replacement. He wasn't talking shit to champ or demanding a title shot either.

Bones had 7 ufc fights before he got the title shot. Again not by talking shit and demanding but by taking it on shorter notice

Conor was a pro fighter for 7 years had 19 pro fights and 6 ufc fights before his title shot. After his 6th UFC fight he jumped over the cage and talked shit about the champ.

What a bad fail comparison.

Spinning shit is expensive cardio wise. Kicking in general drains faster than punching.

Conor's kicking game against Mendes was much better. Minimal spinning shit and a lot of short, direct shots to the body.

what the fuck are you even saying?

They brought Jones along slowly. Dana specifically said that was the plan with Jones, instead of putting him in the meat grinder like they had been doing with everybody up till that point. They did not do this with Conor, and the results of throwing him in the deep end of the pool before he has learned how to swim are already becoming apparent, and will continue to do so. lol @ you

His talk got him so far but he'll probably have to look Stateside to go further.

Brimage, Holloway, and Brandao in your first 3 isn't being thrown to the wolves bro.
If he fought Dustin or Chad in his first couple fights, then yeah, he was thrown to the wolves. But that didn't happen.

Conor never had very good kicks other than his spinning back kick, but even that looked like garbage vs Nate.

Diaz bros are immune to spinning shit I guess.

If they fed him to a wrestler before the Mendes fight, the UFC and Conor wouldn't have made as much money.

Smart move by all to me

he seriously needs to go to Stockton and train with the scrap pack. That seems like a good fit for everybody involved. But as long as a potential Nate rematch is a possiblity, they won't do that.

It would be good for him though

Like I mean there was a thread of dedicated idiots that really thought that Conor could K.O Jones...The delusion was just that crazy less than a month ago

I think Conor may have looked at himself in the mirror and erased those while lines too many times.

Oh and he didn't lose that fight because a bad ground game. He was the Second best sticker in that ring that night and that turned him into a wresler. Fight was over before it hit the ground.

yea the thread is odd - conor wanted to make as much money as possible - he thought he could beat anyone, he was calling out robbie lawler, id say nate was a joke of a fight, the odds agreed
