THE piano thread

It's very strange, that's how I felt about it, I thought when I first heard it I recognized it, that it was from a recent movie soundtrack, but while he has done scoring, I don't think any of these are from movies I've watched. His style immediately reminded me of Cliff Martinez, but on the piano. I think that is its strength, and where this music would be best used: for a soundtrack. It sets an ambience, powerfully evokes a mood, it isn't about progressing a musical idea.

However, I found myself drawn to it. I kept playing it again; listening to "The Fly" repeatedly at a very high volume.
Lisztening again it reminds me of GoT s6 ep10 on the build up to nuking the sept?

digging this interpretation of Graceful Ghost Rag atm. Hamelin is a G

And thanks for pointing out Hamelin is in fact a G. No idea how I didn't post this one the piano thread yet, but thats over. Its literally called "Quasi Faust"

This one is ...probably Hamelin at his most impressive, which is SCARY good .

Here is actually the end of the first movement of that Alkan sonata before quasi faust.

But @OldFashion here is these Chopin-Godowsky etudes that dont look or sound like they were filmed on a potato

7:47 is what up here, for the left hand alone.

Edit: really I shouldn't have called that out specific. The entire selection is fucking beautifully played.

@Sweater of AV @BroRogan @Madmick I think you guys will like that lefty alone one. If you close your eyes you basically cant tell its one hand. Very good playing, and beautiful, too!

This is probably my favorite Gould vid. He comes across looking sorta like a young James Dean here, but he's just playing himself. Awesome keyboard shots of his incredibly unique technique. What a baller...

Thank you, I had never seen this.
The short film with the maid was quite good as well

Do you have a favorite recording of Chopin's 24 Preludes?

Jon Lord having some fun with piano and keyboards
