@shadow_priest_x After I told you that I never taught kata/forms, you probably didn't think I'd be into this shit, did you? :p

I actually was going to ask you about it. What I don't understand is, if you understand the concept of bunkai, why not teach the forms and teach them with a proper understanding of the application?

Furthermore, what about history? Do you not feel like the forms are worth preserving as a kind of historical and cultural part of TKD?

You ever see the sequel? Dae Hon really lets himself go.

You make it sound like there was only one sequel, or is that just wishful thinking / denial / repression?

Jeff Speakman is doing some very advanced kata techniques in that iGot the Power opening scene.

In bunkai analysis and application, any double inside-outside blocking motions is right away a strike intercept into a joint lock.

Say I start with one hand in outside middle block:

And the other in outside lower block.

Through the scissor block motion:

If I do that to an arm that is grabbing me or intercepts a punch, then that becomes the beginnings of a hammer lock.

The movements where he does high to low block with the wrist flick are arm traps/small joint manipulations, with a simultaneous strikes with the other hand.

Some of the stuff in that opening are evident, some are not so obvious (and some well past my point of knowledge), but Speakman definitely knows what the fuck is up an does them very well.

And obviously, shit don't work in the ring and is hard to get to work in real life, but that isn't the purpose of kata.

Yes.. I learned all the basic blocks in Koei-kan karate. But thank you for a well done reply.

I only saw the follow up.

It actually set the template for the Fast and the Furious franchise, sequels that have less and less to do with the premise of the original movie, and increasingly ridiculous and outlandish adventures.

Phillip Rhee milked his creation until there was nothing but dust coming out of those udders.

4 fucking pages and not one goddamn mention of the fact that the only redeeming quality of this by-the-numbers, cliche-ridden C-level martial arts flicks is that it has prime Mariska Hargitay in it?!!??!?!

Sorry bruh, we've been too busy talking about how it's a pretty cool movie.

I met Sensei John Kreese and Johnny at a Terror Expo (kinda like Comic-Con) where I live.

Both were very cool. Kreese was serious about hawking his photos/autographs. I got a bunch from him. He gave me a deal on some Rambo pics.

Johnny said working with Rodney Dangerfield on the set of Back to School was "epic."

Well, you were talking blocks to locks.

Practically speaking, no pun, that makes it kata.

INCORRECT RESPONSE!

The correct response is:

"Before I learned the art, a punch was just a punch, and a kick, just a kick.
After I learned the art, a punch was no longer a punch, a kick, no longer a kick.
Now that I
understand the art, a punch is just a punch and a kick is just a kick."

I've never seen it before sounds like a porno movie title.

LMAO...story time.

As a kid, I was obsessed with martial arts movies. So one day I was telling a friend about how much I loved The Karate Kid and Bloodsport. After hearing this, my friend recommended The Perfect Weapon. He claimed that if I love The Karate Kid and Bloodsport, I would absolutely love The Perfect Weapon.

So I was all like OH SHIT, I NEED TO WATCH THIS MOVIE ASAP. I went to the video store and rented it. HOLY SHIT was I disappointed. That movie is garbage. I was like WTF IS THIS DOGSHIT? How could anyone put it in the same league as The Karate and Bloodsport? LOL.

It was literally one of the worst recommendations ever given to me. LMAO.

End story.

It's on the first page, post 18. Yes, I think she's hot but she's only in it for like 30 seconds

It's not the worst thing to come out of the early 90s, but your buddy grouped it in with two titans for no reason.
