Do you believe there is one? Is there a simple solution to solving it? Is it overblown?
 
Of course there is one, that is not really debatable. The numbers are clear. Educating kids in middle and high school, and preventing doctors from prescribing opioids like they are Skittles would be a great start.

I've seen it...and have had people close to me fall victim to it.

Yes, some may dismiss this as anecdotal evidence, but I've seen it up close and personal.

and it fu*king angers me to no end that there are still so many people who on one hand, talk about the "evils" of marijuana, but are perfectly cool with the opiates pumped out in mass by pharmaceutical companies.

Conservatives, especially the backward Republican folks need to enter the 21st century and stop with this nonsense about "gate way drug"
 
It's not the black plague, but the numbers are rising. In 2015 there was 20,101 overdoses out of the 52,404 lethal drug overdoses. Opiods are effecting a very small percentage of our population, but it's still worth addressing.

I live in Wilmington, NC. Per capita, we are arguably the #1 city in the nation when it comes to opioid addiction, abuse and overdose.

I'm pretty sure the epidemic is very real.

1) a doctor would never prescribe Skittles, Skittles are OTC.
2) just tell kids don't do it and slap them in the face one and say a knuckle sammich comes with each of dem dope pills you catch em with.

Actually, in China people use opioids as a cure for impotence and baldness.

Lol that lil peep kid was something else... Honestly though I love eating pain killers recreationally, but I don't do it very often. I'm 37 and never had a problem with them. I've had a few prescriptions over the years for broken bones and such and I've never found them addictive. I would usually just save them for when I was drinking and share them with friends to party with. Once my script would run out I never went looking for them.
 
I don't have professional training but here goes. First, jails and prisons must eliminate prisoner use. There's little use in sending someone to prison for failing drug tests while on parole if they are going to use while in prison. Second, starting at 18 years-old, the first time opioid use is detected the person needs to be sent to in-house treatment for the number of months that would be useful. Federal and state governments need to build inexpensive facilities. I'm not a bleeding heart liberal but there is an epidemic and the best chance to counter the addiction is very early.

20,000 overdoses means a lot more whose lives are in a bad way. Death toll doesn't even come close to telling the story.
 
Yes it's a problem especially in depressing no sun places like Maine,North East small towns. Also Pacific Northwest aka Seattle, Portland have been overtake with Tweakers, Junkies, Bums.

Survival of the Fittest in my opinion. Population control. If someone chooses to get doped out and die that's just Darwin coming around.
 
Hard drug use in general, not just opioid is a huge issue, even in small towns like where I live.

I would argue Marijuana is a gate way drug but not the way DARE tries to push it and shit.

It's a gateway in the sense that alcohol can be a gateway to other shit. IE, you start using it if it's illegal in your area then you're buying pot from a dude that also hawks other shit and pressures you into trying shitty, well, shit.

It's not the classical BS "they can't get high on pot so they try heroin" it's the "hey, I have some of this other stuff, wanna try it?" sorta gateway shit.
