The only right thing to do is obviously Petr Yan vs Aljo 3

I agree. It's really fucking scary. That many people (over 1/3, almost half the country) feeding that hard into delusion can only lead to catastrophe. That's where I'm afraid this country is headed, and it's not going to be pretty.
I might catch a lot of heat for this, but most MMA fans and especially UFC stans don't like the majority of black fighters and especially the black UFC champions unless they're consistently exciting. Think about it: does MMA fans universally like Ngannou, Adesanya, Edwards, and Sterling?

Fuck no, and although each fighter has legitimate reasons to dislike them (contract disputes, shitty antics, boring fights, DQ win and pointfighting), the true reason is because that the average UFC fan just doesn't relate most black fighters or people in general and at the first sign of disdain, they'll quickly turn on them.

The usual white fighters versus unknown/notorious black fighters will have the typical American UFC fan rooting for the former. You've got exceptions to the rule like Kevin Holland & Derrick Lewis, but fighters like them consistently put on good fights and KOs. It's unfortunate and stupid, but it's reality.

I’ve said this many times. Usman, Jones and loads of others get hate. Normally you see black fighters get some love if they can take out another. For example Rumble vs Jones.

At the same time you’ll have the same fans gushing over Asian fighters especially, Russians, Brazilians etc. I definitely it some dislike for black culture. People seen it I get offended when black guys act like black guys a little in MMA. Maybe it’s political? The demographic of the UFC? Not sure but like they’re definitely getting the most dislike and criticism.

I watched UFC uh 74? At a poker buddy's house, it was like 15 white guys with a few Mexicans. When Rampage KO'ed Liddell, for about a minute after it was so quiet you could hear a pin drop. Looking around I saw disgust on faces, it wasn't just people stunned at the outcome of the fight, they were fuming. If I remember correctly UFC needed to fill a little more time so after the main event they showed Jardine Vs Alexander. When Houston KO'ed him, again silence, followed by multiple guys muttering some not exactly nice words about black people. You can figure it out. I had played poker with most of them every week, but had no idea they were almost all closet racists. Iceman getting starched like he did sure brought out who they were lol. Most weren't MMA fans at all, so it wasn't like they were crying over their favorite fighter getting slept.

I think the attitudes in the room were even worse because both fights were so one sided and ended with brutal KO's.

First of all anyone who says Yan and Sterlimg don't have unfinished business is not being honest with themselves..

7 out of 17 in the media scored for Yan in the their second fight plus the audience scored for Petr Yan.. I am talking about the second fight..

They have had two shaddy fights without any conclusion. Aljo has never beaten Petr Yan in my honest opinion..

They need this one last fight to end this chapter once and for all

this. that first aljo fight in particular was an absolute travesty. shoulda been a no contest, or a loss for aljo due to timidity. the fake contrived outrage at yan, and the fact that aljo was acting… it’s a black eye for the sport. the next aljo fight imo shoulda gone to yan, but it wasn’t as blatantly messed up as the first fight. yan cannot catch a break.

You could have a point but you totally fkd up by saying Yan won the 1st Aljo fight... he kneed him in the face when Aljo was on the ground...

Only way I can see that happening is if there is a spate of injuries. Otherwise he should likely fight Chito and O'Malley should fight Sandhagen and CCC should fight Aljo. If Aljo loses then Meerab also enters the title picture and 3 or 4 more options immediately become available

They definitely do have unfinished business. But that 1st fight wasn't a travesty. It was a foul. Plain and simple. Maybe Aljo COULD have carried on, but he shouldn't HAVE to. I can't stand Aljo, really I can't. I believe he is as fike and a $2 bill. The way he acted after beating TJ shows us again how fake he is... Celebrating like that after he took two rounds to beat a guy he knew was fucked. But in the Yan fight, that was as blatant a foul as you're gonna see.

Anyone does that, they should be DQ'd. It's not about the other guy being stand up enough or tough enough to carry on. Yes it's a fight, but it's a sport as well. They're not on the street.

i have a problem with that reasoning. first of all, fighters commit egregious fouls all the time, and very few are ever even noticed, let alone sanctioned. should fighters start flopping every time jones goes for an eye poke? it would seem to be the smart thing to do if we reward that behavior like we did with aljo. it should never be the case that a fouled fighter has the option of taking a dq win if he’s still able to continue. we have a remedy for the foul in that case—deducting a point. feigning injury is already against the rules, so i see no reason to make an exception for aljo just because he got fouled.

second, aljo was crawling around on his hands and knees like that to avoid standing, and catch his breath (he was getting beaten handily). that’s not what the grounded fighter rule is supposed to protect. he put himself in a position where he was more likely to receive an errant foul. is it a legitimate tactic to essentially get fouled on purpose?

lastly, its pretty clear yan wasn’t trying to cheat. he was winning, easily, which is why aljo felt it necessary to crawl around like a bug. it’s pretty clear yan just reacted in the moment. it doesn’t help that he doesn’t speak english, and therefore could not understand the ref. so many of these blatant fouls get ruled “unintentional,” but this one looks like it genuinely was. the fight should have been no contest at worst.

Imagine being this big of a mark

4-1 Yan. Apparently landing 1 of 26494 takedown attempts wins you 2 rounds
Don't ever judge

Absolute horseshit. Imagine forgiving blatant cheating so much, you're basically sucking him off

He was told directly not to do it by the ref and his corner, then he did it

Fights aren’t determined by fans or media scores.

That's fair point. I thinkk we'll likely have to agree to disagree but I DO see it with Aljo. He rubs me the wrong was, always has, and he is a terribly actor, as I said before. For me this Saturday showed how bad he actually was. That he would actually think people would believe he didn't know or couldn't tell TJ was fucked when his corner were screaming "No Mercy" at him is hilarious.

But that knee was hard. I don't believe he was "Trying to cheat", I dont know what he was trying to do TBH. But that wasn't an accident... Sure, there IS a language barrier, but you can't knee a downed opponent in most organisations (including the last one he fought in). And he'd had 7 fights in the UFC by that time.

It's not fair that others get let go unpunished ... but it doesn't change the fact that it was a flush knee to the face. Weather he was as hurt as he acted doesn't matter. And it shouldn't IMO. I don't think taking a point is really the answer. Same as a blatant groin strike or eye poke.

Getting a point taken off for a foul that gives you any advantage doesn't really cut it IMO

No way to prove Aljo was faking an injury, that wasn't Koscheck sprawling around acting like he was dying from a knee to the head when the knee didn't even land. Yan was told by the ref to not throw a knee, and he still did. It's 100% on him, it was a clean and hard knee, regardless of how Aljo reacted the fight should have been stopped. Yan only has himself to blame for what happened. The fact he got an immediate rematch was a travesty, some of the eye pokes and other potential point deducting fouls. They're often accidental, this knee was clear as day intentional, not all eye pokes and illegal strikes are intentional.

When it's a clear cut case of a guy breaking the rules this blatantly there should always be harsh results, at worse it should be a DQ, would have been shitty for Yan to have been blessed with an NC. He deserves a stain on his record not a fucking NC.

Aljo MIGHT have been acting more hurt than he was, nobody really knows we just speculate.
There's zero speculation that Yan did a piece of shit illegal move, fuck him. And even if Aljo was playing hurt, the illegal knee trumps that 100/100 times.

I still can't get over why this is even debated.

I vote against it. Yan should gain confidence against some other fighters first or it'll end even worst than their second fight. The thing is, I'm not for a sean title shot next either.
Cejudo, I'd like it. I'd like the fight and seeing him fight in the UFC again.
There are other options of course, but a third Yan/aljo would be too soon IMO

similar to Zhang (who lost 2 fights), Yan is probably 1 win away from fighting for the belt.

He lost 2 close fights.

I had him winning the O'Malley fight but I also can't complain when a judge finally prioritises scoring damage over takedowns that don't have real value beyond positional advantage.

We've been crying out for that for years

I don't think it's necessary, but I'd be happy to watch it.

Because some people are salty haters and they hate on Sterling.

Your Twitter poll is completely pointless.
