So this was way back in his very first UFC fight against McCorkle. Me and 2 friends drove all the way from Toronto to Indianapolis for what we figured was our last chance to see Cro Cop live when he stepped in as a late replacement against Mir. Needless to say that fight was a major letdown, but the best part of the night came outside the arena following the event.
So we're walking down the street, looking for where we parked our car, and I look up and see none other than Mark Hunt walking towards us. He was with a couple of other dudes but no one on the street payed any attention to him, understandably so since it was his first UFC fight and I doubt there was too many Pride/K-1 fans around at the moment.
Of course being a huge Mirko fan from his K-1 and Pride days, I also knew all about Hunt, and walked up to him and told him what an honor it was to meet him. The guy was smelling like booze, and seemed pretty down, he actually mumbled back in that Aussie accent "ah nah man, I'm a loser, I lost I feel lika loser...". And I was like "nah man, you're a friggen legend, K-1 champion, badass to the max". We all proceeded to pose for a picture with him, and I wished him best of luck and told him he's forever a champion even if he never wins another fight in his life. He was really cool, and probably could have talked to him more or even possibly tagged along to whatever bar they were going to next, but he seemed a bit down and I didn't wanna be one of those groupie fans and just shook his hand and went on my way.
I know, not the most eventful story but it was still pretty exciting for me and a moment I'll never forget. I was reading his Wiki page how he first got into kickboxing and was given a six pack of beer for winning his first fight, and it reminded me of that night.
