The new commentator

Ok that one was funny ;)

Mauro's been great, only beef with him is him blowing up my news feed retweeting everyone who gives him props.

He's the first WWE announcer in years that hasn't annoyed the shit out of me.

He's better than all their other announcers combined.

I like that he calls it like a sport, unlike the patronizing 'I don't believe the shit I'm saying at all' tone of Micheal Cole.

He has a genuine enthusiasms and adds to a match rather than detracts.. something WWE commentary hasn't had or done in years.

are you a troll?
  • the shows have had more than 2 announcers for the longest time
  • mauro is a play by play commentator. they're supposed to call it like an actual sport. did you hate jim ross? are you a fan of all the "oh my"s and "what a maneuver"s?
  • king sucks and has sucked forever. that he hasn't ditched his bashing of luchadores by saying they're midgets and that you love it shows a lot.

It's so amusing to me how hostile pro wrestling fans are against ppl who disagree with them. I was asking for others thoughts and opinions.. But none of you can give them without being vicious and standoffish.

I don't like it.. But just because you do doesn't make you a bad person. The guy does a great job doing what he does so it's just a matter of opinion if you enjoy what he adds to the show or not. Despite this, 4 or 5 people have requested that I be banned and a few others have explained to me how stupid and trashy I am for not liking it.

In my opinion WWE should not try and move in the direction of legitimizing itself as a competition. Its a circus act and it should stay that way and build upon its roots. Anyone who disagrees with me should die in a flaming car crash on christmas eve.

I'm not sure why others have asked for you to be banned, that's a rediculous. It's your opinion and you are entitled to it. I always considered Sherdog to be a site that most casual fans UFC/WWE don't frequent. Like I said before, my opinion is that WWE is trying something different to hopefully increase ratings by bringing in a more well known sports/wrestling announcer from NJPW / Pride FC / Strikeforce etc. and seeing how their fan base responds. If you don't like him, that's fine, but A LOT of people do enjoy him and have missed having a good play-by-play announcer.

I do think Mauro is more appreciated commentating wrestling programs that aren't WWE. NJPW has a completely different style (strong style) of wrestling that is promoted more like a sport than just pure entertainment. I personally like the change. WWE has had a void when it comes to commentators who actually sound intelligent and care about the athletes and the product. Guys like J.R. and Matt Striker where great, but it hasn't been the same since they left. Hopefully Mauro does well and make viewers actually interested in the product and tune in each week.

Your opinion is valid, but you should realize that most people in the business of pro wrestling (promoters, the wrestlers, etc.) feel like what they do is a legitimate sport, not a sport in the since that they are competing for wins/losses, but a sport in that they are real athletes and not circus clowns. You have to have a reason to be invested in the product to stick around and watch it week after week. The crazy moves some guys do is probably the smallest aspect in pro wrestling, and it's not what keeps people tuning in and buying tickets.

Just try and be more open minded to the ways companies experiment with new ideas and try to evolve their product. And check out other pro wrestling product if you want to see the difference in styles of wrestling, commentary, etc.

Check out Lucha Underground if you can. It comes on the El Ray network if you have it. NJPW comes on Friday nights as well I believe on AXS TV. Impact Wrestling comes on Tuesday nights on POP. Also ROH used to be on tv, but you can still watch it online on their website.

I actually specifically watched Smackdown today with the roomate because I remembered reading he was going to be on it and really enjoyed him. Sounded like he was actually interested in the show, excited about what was happening, and PAYING ATTENTION to what was in front of him.

Also seems like they're making Jerry the more 'bad guy' announcer, JBL style (or I guess King style from years ago).

I do think right now he might be a little TOO amped up all the time, but regardless, it's wildly better than listening to people note after the fact in a conversational tone that the match could have, in theory, ended in that pin attempt if we all weren't aware that that's not how the thing is scripted.

I like the new team.... Lawler has found a second life. He made me laugh a few times the last two weeks. That hasn't happened in years

On the flip side when I watch 96 Raws he has me laughing at least once a show... On a one hour show

Lawler as a heel announcer is gold. He has more wit than anyone gives him credit for. He will breathe new life into the announce team, if they stay the course with him. One of the biggest problems with he announce team is that they have nobody to bounce off each other with. They're just three talking heads saying things. They rarely converse about anything in the ring. Lawler as a heel will add a much needed dynamic to the team, and will elevate everyone.

It doesn't matter what you think.

I feel Mauro and Booker would work well

That's always been my one issue with Mauro.. He can be a little intense, like he's just shy of yelling all the time. At least he shows some enthusiasm though. RAW announcers have casual conversations about unrelated garbage and bicker during matches. Mauro stays on point.

He's so good at everything else I can overlook him occasionally being a little grating. Plus I love that he actually calls moves, I really missed that.

Yep. The idea that talking about what's happening on the audiences screen and acting as if it has some level of importance to it is so different as to be noticeable is ridiculous, but it's real. That being said, I have no doubt the instructions received by the commentators have a lot more impact on their delivery than their preference, knowledge or skill do, so I at once wonder if he will be able to stay like that for long, and also, if they didn't want him for that then why would they hire him?
