Holy shit, this movie was incredible. I had never heard of it before last night and I have to say it's in my top ten movies easily. It was just oozing with depth and tension. A real cerebral chess match. How in the world did this go under my radar?! What do y'all think about it? Is there anything similar you recommend?

Yeah good movie, what was Spacey's name in it again?

Great action thriller.

Haven't seen it in ages. Might have to rewatch it this month.

yeah that's a badass movie for sure, I've seen it plenty of times.

Chris Sabian was Spacey's name in the movie if I recall correctly.

Chris Sabien.

Is this movie criminally underrated or have I just never noticed the name thrown out?

I would say it's just one of those movies that people just forgot existed.

TNT used to show it all the time I think, it has great rewatchability.

i had to google to be sure you were talking about he same movie because i remember it being mediocre. haven't seen it since, what, like 1996? though so might have to rewatch

Yeah that's it, Sabien, fuckin' cool name!

I thought it was genius. Hostage negotiator takes hostages to negotiate with those who are essentially holding him hostage. It played out like what Dean Lister calls BJJ, the tying and untying of knots. The acting is unarguably A+. The plot is unique and well developed. And the dialogue is top notch. Not to mention the intangibles that make the film stellar.

I wonder if it has to do with timing? It came out in '98 with a lot of huge blockbusters, some good some not so good. The internet came a little afterwards and now we all remember Saving Private Ryan, Titanic, and Matthew Broderick's Godzilla, but this movie slipped through the cracks. Maybe it was just bad timing?

Dude, it's a good movie, but it's in your top ten list?

A narrow victory has casualties on both sides, a good victory has casualties only for the enemy, but a great victory is won without the taking of a life at all. I can't explain it, but that movie just hit all the right chords for me.

Now of course that one dude died but he was murdered by his own side so it doesn't really count as the protagonist's actions.

Everybody I knew loved it when it came out. The late nineties had a surplus of great movies though so that might be why it's not talked about often. They don't make movies like that anymore.

Not surprising since you seem to have polarizing taste in movies.

lmao what a joke. No one was calling that movie mediocre at the time of it's release. Looks like someone just got outed for not giving good movies their fair shake.

Great movie, and no it was not underrated or swept under the rug. Not sure how it got by you ts, but it's a well known flick
