People keep saying this whenever he is brought up. Since when does 1 KO loss to a known power puncher almost 10 years ago warrant that kind of talk?

If anything the Alvarez loss shows that his chin is just fine. He took some bombs and never went down.

Average durabilty, good recovery in result of good conditioning.

What??....My impression has always been that RDA has a granite chin, I've only seen Khabib & Eddie drop him. Guida even broke his jaw and he kept on fighting. Don't listen to casuals man.

I don't think I've even heard people say otherwise....

But what about the shot that rocked him in the first place?

I never hear he has a weak chin... what

I don't think anyone has questioned his titanium chin. It's literally titanium. However, he is very hittable, and sometimes it doesn't matter how good your chin is when that is the case.

What about it? Are you implying that getting rocked by a punch (one of 2 instances where he was visibly hurt in 7 years) is indicative of a weak chin?

Plus it was a shoryuken!

I assume you never saw the Stephens uppercut from hell?

I forgot about that one! And it was 9 years ago.....So we have 2 instances in 7 years, 3 total in 9 years (24 fights in that time). Are we drawing a 'weak chin' conclusion from these examples?

Not at all. Just wanted to make sure you were up to par on your statements.

I'm implying that the parameters of the "chin" discussion are all over the place.

To some, getting "rocked" means a fighter has a weak "chin". To others, only getting KO'd means a fighter has a weak "chin".

It's a ridiculous discussion that never goes anywhere.

Yeah in no way is his chin weak. I saw him standing in the pocket and trading with Robbie F'ing Lawler and coming out on top.

Well, he gets flush and he's in big trouble. Especially a right to the chin.

As long as there's contrarians (which should be considered white noise) a consensus can certainly be reached in cases where there is a constant, proven track record.
But yes most conversations here could continue perennially simply because there's trolls or contrarians who get a kick from ruffling other's feathers.

There's no consensus that can be reached with regards to the "chin" thing though. No one is a scientist here ... I don't think.

We'll have to agree to disagree in the sense that because we can't assign a 'number' per se to what constitutes a weak or strong chin we must rely on it's performance in battle and with a fighter as active as RDA we have about a decade of 'samples' with 28 performances in which his chin has been put to the test (and this includes extraordinary examples such as his jaw being broken but he was not dropped) and we can only come up with 3 instances in which he was dropped or KO'd. That is 3 in what must hundreds upon hundreds of strikes absorbed.

So yes you can still argue that this does not scientifically 'prove' a solid chin but considering that's all we have, I confidently stand by my own assessment of his durability. And this comes from a non-RDA fan who has always felt somewhat suspicious of his ability to perform.
