Name some fighters who were pretty great, that seemed to throw their careers down the tubes. The two that immediately come to mind are Filho and Bobby Hoffman. I'm not including guys like Arona who decided to retire early

Sokoudjou is probably at the top of the wasted potential list. Mayhem Miller should be on there somewhere as well.

Brandon Vera - Was tearing through guys left and right. Took some bad advice and sat out for a year. Returned with some hype still intact, and then lost to Tim Sylvia. Aura destroyed. Went on to be average.

Aleks, mayhem, perhaps war machine.

Aleks definitely, you get talk about various muscle monsters having a lot of natural ability but I think he argebly had more than anyone in HW history. The cliché that he moved like a guy half his size was almost true in this case, no other HW that big has shown the same kind of foot/hand speed.

Watching that guy let his hands go was so unreal. Without the mental health issues, I really think he could have overshadowed his bro. He was apparently stupidly lazy as well. Should'a, would'a, could'a, though.

Aleks, for sure. Vodka is a helluva drug.

Randleman by never going to a camp that was worth a damn until it was too late.

Good call with Bobby Hoffman. I remember watching him fight in King of the Cage, years ago, thinking that this man is a fuckin beast. Then I read on his wiki what he did to his wife on their Honeymoon.

Lee Murray immediately comes to mind. Another one, since I'm a big Nick Diaz fan, is Jeremy Jackson. Sad, sad story all around with that man.

I hope we can't include Ronda Rousey in this conversation someday. She's still head an shoulders above most of the women in her division, and she is doing herself a great disservice by not fixing her boxing and striking game to where she can at least hang with a Holly Holm long enough to put her strengths to use. I really hope we get to answer that Rousey vs Cyborg question someday...

Not really thrown away, because he chose to retire early too, but Cole Konrad, amazing wrestling, striking started to look sharp, yet he never got in really good shape. Then Bellator couldn't find him a fight so he decided to retire and make more money elsewhere.
