The MMA Hour - Ariel Helwani discusses being banned by Zuffa (VIDEO)

Good lord, when is Zuffa going to realize that their beyond having to even deal with petty shit like this. This isn't 2001 and people running around calling it human cock fighting and your scratching and clawing your way to legitimize this sport in the eyes of the general public. I get them being very self conscious of the sport back then and not wanting negative stories written over and over. But in 2016 it isn't needed in simple news cases like this to go after any reporter for leaking simple fight news.

Also normal for journalists to lose privileges if they leak info they shouldn’t. Both sides are at fault, but ultimately Ariel stands to lose the most.
This would only make sense if 1.) he worked for zuffa, or 2.) he gave Dana his word that he would not leak it before ufc or espn. Would you want mma journos to withhold information until a big organization gives their ok? IMO it was zuffa's job to keep their secrets if they didn't want them leaked.

Reporting rumors before an official announcement is leaking. He leaked it.

Don't. Be. Silly.

A leak is someone in the company who provides the news to reporters... The reporter's job is simply to verify it with other sources/leaks and report it if true. Which Ariel did.

ariel mentioning conor best #plumber

"They promised the scoop to someone else"

There it is

UFC acted like clowns on this one

"No one cares who reports it first." Then why the hell do you need to beat them to the punch?

I LOL'd hard when he said he didn't feel comfortable going in to the back room to see Dana. Haha Ariel thought his legs were gonna get broken.

Watching this is reminding me of why I dislike this guy so much. Yes, it was within your rights to report what you knew, and the UFC, a private company, was within their rights to revoke your UFC press privileges, really for whatever reason they like. To not know that this was a risky move, especially after getting canned from Fox, is stupid.

But it's a risk I prefer he and all journalists take.

We can't have all journalists just afraid to tell the truths they know because everyone has to fear the UFC??

Why would fans want that?? We want information so anyone who's pissing the UFC off by reporting stuff is doing the right thing.

Unless you only want propaganda and don't care for any info the UFC intends to control. That's up to you.

Is tweeting scoops journalism? If that is the case then Frontrowbrian is the Howard Cosell of mma not Helwani

you listen to his interview and you still dont get it ? well too bad your view is so narrow

Great post. If the UFC want to control Ariel, there's an easy way: hire him, pay him a mountain of money then tell him what to do and not to do.

If they won't hire him, they can't fire him.

But what does that tell you about how they operate? Ariel has been around them for years and years. If he's scared to go backstage by himself (I doubt he feared actual physical harm), what does that say??

"they said Brock suggested they do certain things to me."

wtf
