Metal/Rock/Industrial The metal thread \m/

I mean unless you were born in the 70s, then nu metal adjacent stuff was more than likely part of the first stuff you got to hear when you pursued metal music.

Not all of us had older brothers that made us only listen to nwobhm, etc.

When I was trying to find metal music, I found Pantera, White Zombie, Metallica, Megadeth, Korn, Deftones and so on waiting for me, and took a look at everything.

And yes, I still do love alot of the stuff. Even if for nostalgic reasons, but I can acknowledge that there's aspects of the music that is done really well in spite of it being a stripped down version of what I usually like.

There is an art form to that.

When I got older and got way more deeper into metals history, the next generation of kids found slipknot, Killswitch engage, etc

I thought all that shit sucked when I heard it, but of course those kids were just like me, those were the bands there at the time that helped them become metalheads.

It is what it is. I don't care if people wanna listen to nu metal. But that scene as it existed before is something different now. It's more like Metalcore or Deathcore has taken its place. And this stuff seems a lot worse haha.
Yeah I think you age can really matter in these types of cases if you were a 90's kids like us then you where kind of engulfed in it. I like you had an older sibling (sister) who was listening to Kill em All and she had some Judas Priest and Ratt and stuff like that so that's how I got my start at a very young age with trash metal then death metal then I found Pantera and they blew my mind. I think a lot of the Nu Metal stuff stands the test of time for the most part and there are still some bands implementing it into their sound ala Tallah, Slaughter To Prevail, Code Orange etc. I still like to go back and listen once and awhile I think Korn has put out some of their best work in recent efforts but I will always be a Trash/Death/Groove metal guy at heart. After that it was Melodic Death Metal and OG Metal Core.

New BAEST coming out August 15th. This song rocks:

weirdest stylistic change for a band I have ever seen It's like they went into a time machine and went back to the late 70' and early 80's and I don't like it. It's so weird to just come out one day as a completely different band. GIVE ME BACK MY OLD SCHOOL DEATH METAL

LOL! I actually fucking love it, but yeah shit starts off sounding like AC/DC. DEATH & ROLL!!!

We'll see how the full album is. I loved that last EP Justitia which wasn't exactly Old School Death Metal either.

Karyn Crisis one of the very first woman to do growls in heavy music
Lori bravo probably came before her, but she was good.

I always felt she didnt do everything great, but she was fucking unique and did alot of memorable shit on that Deathshead Extermination album...but the music of the players... is fuckin awesoome, listen to the bass work, fuck. Sinister shit.

I LOVE Skrew's first three so so so much. That Angel seed one didnt do shit for me though, and then they came back as average black metal. Just not interested in that.

Death 'n' roll was a trend for a while in the mid 1990s and its still a thing. and it sucks.
i want death metal, not 1970s buttrock inside a death metal package

Well the great thing is that theirs plenty of straight up Death Metal everywhere, so you still get all that, but if people want something a bit different in addition to that they have the option. I like groove and fun and a lot of Death Metal doesn't have that, so bring it on.

Generally speaking I prefer Thrash to Death Metal because the concerts are way funner. People are more likely to get down and rage, a lot of Death Metal shows I've been to is a bunch of people standing like statues barely moving their head. The Death Metal I see people, including myself, get the fuck down to at shows is shit like Skeletal Remains, so it doesn't have to be some Rock element to it to do it though.

you can have groove in death metal, i got nothing against that. Morpheus Descends has some of the best groovy riffs ive heard, for instance. im not into stuff thats made to be groovy, but stuff that has groove/grooves in it, if you get me.
specifically death'n'roll implies death metal + rock which is not what i am looking for. i feel like its a regression of the genre. i like death metal because of how far removed some of it is from rock music. same with black metal, grindcore, etc.

i went to Maryland Deathfest this year and there were pretty big pits for Incantation, Cenotaph (Mexico), Malignancy, Krisiun, Dripping and several others. I got in the pit myself for Incantation. but i do get what you mean about people standing around. i find what you say is more true for black metal shows in my experience. and i usually just like to stand and watch most black metal, haha. i do love some thrash though and damn right i moshed when i saw Razor at the fest.

Everything is relative ya know ? What's in a number ? :):):)

Death N Roll Carcass just sounded like Youthanasia Era Megadeth with harsh vocals to me.

Why anyone would want that after being into Carcass before, is baffling to me lol

Listening to lots of Sabbath - oriented stuff lately like Green Hog Band :):):)....there would be no such riffs around today without Iommi and the boyZ....

Ya'll need to calm down they had one experimental album like that. Their come back albums Surgical Steel and Torn Arteries are nothing like that.
