So,
@BroRogan , here’s my review from last night…
The evening kicked off with Australian grindcore jokers King Parrot, who I was unfamiliar with. Singer Matthew Young alternates between screechy and cookie monster vocals, and in between songs has that usual Aussie mix of affable banter, and saying ‘cunt’ as many times as humanly possible.
They were messy, good natured fun, like an antipodean Tankard.
Next up were Power Trip, who I find workmanlike on record. Live, however, they were tight as fuck. When they locked into a power metal groove, it were glorious. New-ish vocalist Seth Gilmore seems to have settled in well.
Then it was time for the main event. What can I say - Pantera were everything you’d want them to be (minus the miraculous resurrection of the Abbot brothers).
Phil was on good form, both vocally and in his interactions with the audience. During ‘Floods’, the screens behind the band lit up with videos and stills of Dime and Vinnie.
Talking of Dimebag, you couldn’t ask for a better stand in than Zakk Wylde. The guy was amazing, recreating Dime’s flamboyant playing effortlessly.
To finish - the icing on the cake. After the standard encore of ‘Fucking Hostile’, Phil announced they were going to play a song that they hadn’t performed on this tour previously, and the band launched into ‘Revolution Is My Name’. The crowd went wild.
All in all, a most satisfactory evening
