Lol. I was definitely around when cassettes were around. I was so cheap that I would get a cassette tape of some sermons from a random preacher that my mom listened to at the time and put Scotch tape over the little notch, which would then allow me to record songs from the radio.

I got into metal when I turned 12, which was when Pantera disbanded. Saw my first concert with Rob Halford and Testament 3 years later, and Judas Priest and Black Sabbath a year after that. 2004 was a fucking great year for metal.
 
Man, this thread is older than I expected. I forgot I made a post explaining the origin of my nickname/handle, which is in page #4.

So weird because it seems that the more recent the posts, the less I seem to recognize the bands being mentioned in said posts. I am so out of touch of the recent metal scene.
 
Anyone who is a fan of Al Cisneros, Sleep and especially OM/Sleep I am uploading my whole collection of live OM. So far I have 6 OM live gigs uploaded including Om's first official gig back in 2004 before they even released their debut Variations On A Theme in mid 2005

I f'n love Mastodon. My favorite post 2000 group. I have yet to see them live but they are great live and really have gotten much better with the vocals live. Also Coheed is pretty good too
 
I have really gotten into Sepultura again after not listening to them for about a decade. Their first albums are epic.

 
Dang, I didn't bother asking if any fellow sherdogger would attend this year's Hellfest. Been there last week. Quality shit.

I stopped going because it's too crowded, but I went eight times, nine if you include the former version Fury Fest, and had my fair share of awesome shows. Lots of great memories there. Did it twice as a media VIP (there are at least two better levels of VIP) and got too accustomed to go back among the pleb lol.

I can totally see your point about the crowd. Still a blast to attend with your 40something buddies with whom you listened to ACDC and the Irons back in high school, away from all your job, family and health issues - renting a house nearby, as camping is absolutely fucking unthinkable. It was my second time there after last year. I may very well be back there in 2020.

I've always camped there, even as a VIP, it's its own adventure lol. The Hellfest's camping has traditions and various chants that can start at any time of the night, driving newbies crazy. My personal favourite is "Respectez les gens qui dorment" (respect other people's sleep), a chant that mocks someone who begged people to shut-up at 4 or 5 in the morning. Of course, screaming "Apéroooooooo!" at the most inconvenient and annoying time for everyone around is a must, and usually starts a cascade of various screams.

I like it quite a lot on paper, of course, but I'd go absolutely fuckin apeshit at 5am lol

That and the mandatory backpain you get after 12 hours standing up then sleeping on the ground when you're well in your fourties. I'm way too old for that shit (and I don't mind being called a "tourist" for this). I had to give up before the Tool show this time and I certainly do regret it.

Great 3 days of metal anyway, even with all the daytime populace.
 
I went to Hellfest in 2009 and had an awesome time. Everything I'd look for in a music festival. Also went to Rock Am Ring, Download, Gods of Metal and Wacken that year, but Hellfest was definitely the highlight.
