Does anyone else think weekly episode format is superior to dropping an entire series at once? The Netflix/Amazon model sucks all the anticipatory excitement out of a serialized TV show. Weekly releases let everyone catch up so they're all on the same page when discussing it.

He didn't walk in, plop his booty on the table and say "I'll have a pauldron, please."

He gave her the loot, she said this will help a certain group of Mandos, then decided that he should get a pauldron.

Do me a favor and shut the fuck up. You don't have any more information than the rest of us.

And if you do, shut the fuck up.
calm down bro. What is it about Star Wars that makes grown men so hostile?

I would like the option to binge the whole thing, but that likely means less money for Disney+, so they won't allow that.

There were times I binged a TV show on demand and it was like a blur because I watched so many episodes back to back and didn't remember or absorb everything.

This dude is over the top obnoxious and my response would be the same if we were discussing any topic. Dudebro is replying to people as if he's the authority and his opinion is objectively correct on every-fucking-thing.

We have all seen the exact same footage from The Mandalorian, and it is incredibly rude of him to post at me, or anyone else, as if he wrote the damn thing and he's correcting our interpretation of what we saw.

There's one person in this thread that needs to calm down, and it ain't me.

Interesting math.
9ABY - 50 years = 41BBY
Anakin (mutha fuckin) Skywalker's date of birth = 41BBY

Unless Yaddle & Yoda made a Yoddle... this could be the real force baby & Shmi just got ruffied.

Lets not forget Palps could've been the one that sent that fucker there to hire Mando. So fear would not be the motivation for getting the lil guy in that case.

(edit: though the shakiness about live or dead wouldn't have been so questionable if Palp were the one saying that he wanted a living swamp frog.)

Maybe,
However in that scene though... I got the idea that she wanted to know whether or not to include it on his shoulder plate that she waz about to forge. She said "A pauldron is in order, has your signet been revealed." So I think that's the context for that scene. or maybe it's a double meaning. Likely they'll write him in to be of a significant faction... & to your point... his Signet will be important. I mean he's hiding it for a reason... so yeah, it's likely a double meaning.

"Answered to her?"... he payed her the equivalent of 4 bounties for her services. (see number 1 below)

See answer number 2 in the next segment.

There's many thingz wrong with what you've said here imo.
1)Rewarding him -
Mando, had at least 3 other bounties including Horacio Sanz.... & he paid that blacksmith every bit of it in order for her to use her facility, forge, templates & skillz in order to turn that chunk of metal into a shoulder plate... so he was not "rewarded" by her.

2) Swag -
That armor deflects blaster fire better than any other armor in the universe & can even take a decent swipe (though not a direct stab) from a light saber. Its hardly "swag." His occupation has people trying to kill him... I think it's a lot more valuable for him to keep him alive than to say that it's just "swag."

3) Not much going on in that scene? -
You see how the Mandalorian people are living. They once had a great empire protecting 1,000 other planets... & now they've been "purged" (per the visions of invasions with the battle droid in the background) & the blacksmith also refers to "the Great Purge" being where their Beskar got swiped from the Mandalorian people... which obviously indicates that Mandalore was overthrown.

One could say order 66 had something to do with it... because that was known as a purge... but I don't know how the death of Jedi would equate to Mandalore being robbed blind. Fun timing though, because the Republic was literally in the act of liberating Mandalore at the exact moment order 66 happened.

We don't know what happened after that... but this scene clearly indicates that the planet of Mandalore was taken & stripped of its natural resources by another group of people. Since the wheeler dealer guy who gives him the bit of Beskar is obviously from the Empire, & he says he's got lots more, I think it's safe to say that the empire moved in at some point & kicked out the Mandalorians.

I know the definite answer.
Yeah, the actor who voices him said in an interview that he has an extensive & very interesting arc in the series.

You heard it here first people...

You seem to like the show. Which makes me happy. It’s good to see The Mandalorian bringing them factions together.

I absolutely prefer the one a week format. Gives anticipation of the next episode, you can discuss it and hype it a bit too.

I liked the episode but it was way too short.

I have to admit I’m disappointed this show doesn’t have a 1 hour run time. Hell even 1 hour NBC dramas have a full 45 minute run time.

Any word if this is going to get a BluRay release eventually?

I think I saw Netflix stuff on BluRay.

The Blue Fish alien in the opening scene speaking perfect American English vernacular didn’t work for me one bit. Should’ve had subtitles. That blue alien took me right out of the first scene. It was like Patton Oswald in blue makeup. Simply didn’t work and took any mood out of the scene and it seemed more like a Saturday morning cartoon than a menacing pub. Let’s be honest the entire opening scene was just one bad cliche. One after another

The entire riding the blue creature scene wasn’t for me either. Those scenes were very corny.

I know this is only the first episode but the trailer made this seem dark with heavy mood and even though I enjoyed the episode for the most part there was nothing dark or heavy about it. Kinda bland and cookie cutter to be quite honest. The over all scenes had no real weight behind them.

The saving graces are Nolte and Herzogs overall acting skills in their scenes. Their dialogue was nothing to write home about (like most of the dialogue in the episode) but they managed to flawlessly sell their scenes and made them believable.

Episode is way too short and it made the show haphazard and rushed.

I need to see more episodes but I found it enjoyable but nothing memorable.

This is what happens when you put a man who loves Star Wars in charge, as opposed to women, soy-boys and haters:rolleyes:

Favreau Bless:)

So what's the verdict after the first ep aired?

I agree about the blue dude at the beginning, it was like a strong NY accent or something, it was too much (I'm only saying NY as an example, I give a fuck what accent it was).
I feel the accents should be neutral, at least indistinguishable by area codes. Maybe it's just me (I hated the strong Glaswegian accent in space in Force Awakens, I don't ever want to be reminded of the real world when I'm watching Star Wars movies)

The riding the blue things didn't bother me but the atrocious music they played over it did, too much too loud, too electronic. Should stick to the classical instruments and keep that shit low key.
I was expecting Richard Attenborough's voice to come over the top and describe them 'bounding graciously along, looking for a new home and possible a mate to start a new life with'

Jesus girl, calm the fuck down. Discussing things is literally what a forum is for.

You said their wasn't much going on in that blacksmith scene & that she rewarded him with swag. I simply stated that there was more going on in that scene than you were making it out to be, he over-payed for it according to her words so it wasn't a "reward"... & that his shoulder plate is for protection not "swag." If you have a rebuttal then lets here it, but just getting grumpy & being a dick about it isn't making your case. Not even what you said here is accurate. She made the shoulder piece first, & had some Beskar left over apparently, & then she said that bit about how the excess will help the foundlings.

Here's a dictation of the scene for clarity:
  1. He layed the money on the table & then the Beskar.
  2. She: "This was gathered from the great purge, it's good it's back with the tribe."
  3. He: "Yes"
  4. She: "A Pauldron is in order, has your signate been revealed?"
  5. He: "Not yet"
  6. She: "Soon"
  7. She makes the shoulder plate
  8. She: "This is extremely generous, the excess will sponsor many foundlings"
  9. He: "That's good... I was once a foundling."
  10. She: "I know"
  11. She finishes banging out the piece & attaches it.

Her mentioning his Pauldron before he asks for it seemed to me like her way of saying that it was enough Beskar for that piece. He obviously came to her wanting something made. iow, I don't think he just gave her everything he had expecting nothing & then he was rewarded with that Pauldron. He paid for a piece to be made, & she let him know it was enough for the Pauldron. That's the way I see it.

To your point, I'll give you that her saying "soon" regarding his signate being revealed, shows there's some sort of backstory we don't know, but this doesn't equate to her being his boss imo. She didn't even know that it hadn't been revealed yet, much less be like his boss that was telling him what to do & when he should reveal it.

Also, he never said she could keep the excess, but again, there's some sort of understanding of their "tribe" and that transaction that we're un-aware of. I can see how these things are being understood that she could be some sort of authority figure... & maybe that's true... but I don't think the events of this scene are proof of that. To me it seems like they have an understanding. Perhaps he owes them still for his helmet... & so that's why he donated the excess. Maybe that's their ship... or they helped repair it... we just don't know enough of their back story to say as definitively as you did that she's the boss & rewarded him with a shoulder plate. As you said, "you don't know any more than I do"... and I just don't think its accurate yet to say for sure that she rewarded him with something. Especially after he layed down all the money from 4 bounties.

Perhaps the money he layed down wasn't enough for the peace he wanted, & so she assumed the excess Beskar she could keep made up the difference, & her pointing out that it was "generous" is her way of telling him he has a bit of credit with her now. I dunno. At this point we can only speculate about the reasons why she assumed she could keep it, but that makes sense to me.

It was OK, decent enough to keep watching, not perfect but more Star Wars than other Star Wars

What did you think?

Haven't watched it yet, bud.

Ah OK, hence you asking how it was!

It was OK, depends how hard Star Wars gets you these days.
It was never going to be as good as we want it to be

Fuck that. If I cant binge the season no point in watching.

this wasn't my intention. I felt like your interpretation wasn't accurate & so I gave you my understanding of it. I'm completely open to re-buttal & will admit any time I feel someone shows me that I was wrong.

This is a discussion forum designed for such interactions. If you don't want anyone to second guess you without throwing a hissy fit then maybe this isn't for you.
