The best way to deal with a shitstorm is to get out in front of it. And that's exactly what Machida and Curson have done here, but don't be fooled.
First of all Machida broke the news and cancelled the fight on his own accord, USADA didn't break this story... his PR team did so obviously he is surrounded by professionals competent enough to know Machida getting busted by USADA for DHEA or possibly SOMETHING ELSE was bound to happen
Secondly Curson right off the bat was spreading bullshit...
lol 1 year or one decade?
perpetuating a narrative reeking of bullshit that insists Machida is just an unlucky bastard who took the wrong kind of fish oil from the wrong grocery story who deserves your empathy
it is true that DHEA is more food extract than it is performance enhancing steroid drug
but that's where thing start to fall apart for Machida because it only has a 12 hour shelf life in the body... how amazingly inconvenient for Machida that he tries his tainted supplement on the same day he gets tested OR it was a supplement he takes regularly without thinking about it
I would be far more inclined to believe Machida if he told the story after the fact. Yeah it's admirable for someone to come clean for their crimes before they are caught, but this reeks of a career criminal who is surrounded by professionals covering up the truth rather than a dumb idiot who was in the wrong place and the wrong time.
Ultimately DHEA is banned for a reason. It can be used as a masking agent for other PEDS and it is a steroid hormone. And Machida is at that age where the body just doesn't pump out hormones like it used to.
